"What would you like me to call you, Adeline?" she abruptly asked me.
I tilted my head, considering her question. "What do you mean?"
"In the eyes of everyone around us, we are now a couple, so we should have nicknames for each other. You already call me Em from time to time, so we're covered on your side. However, I'm pretty sure calling you SSA Brown won't do the trick. So," she smirked, "what would you like me to call you, Adeline?"
I had never had her full attention on me for this long before, at least not when we were sober, and as much as I loved it, I wasn't sure I'd be able to survive it.
I took a sip of my wine to calm my nerves and looked her in the eyes.
"You could call me Addie?" I suggested.
"No," Emily's voice deepened when she said it, making it clear that she wouldn't even entertain a thought about it.
"Why not? All our friends call me Addie."
"Exactly, Adeline. I'm not your friend," she emphasized the last word, and her smirk dropped a little when she said it.
"Is that why you never call me Addie? Because you're not my friend?" I asked before I could stop myself.
"Would you like me to be one?" Emily raised an eyebrow.
I didn't reply to that, just stared into her gorgeous brown eyes before giving up and taking another sip of my wine.
"Alright, what would you like to call me, then?"
"Sweetheart, darling, love," she shrugged. "Any of the above, although I do like your name, so most of the time I think I'm gonna stick to that."
"You know, now that I think about it, no one really calls me Adeline, except you," I told her.
But she only smiled and said, "I know."
After a few moments of comfortable silence, Emily spoke up again.
"We should really go on a first date. Sometime soon. To get to know each other better. I mean, we already know quite a lot from working together, but that's just not going to be enough if we are going to fool a team of profilers," she let out a soft laugh at the end of her sentence, and I smiled at that. I think it's the most beautiful sound in the world, and I never want to stop hearing it.
"True," I agreed with her, "where should we go?"
"There's this Italian restaurant near our office building. The owner is a friend of mine, so we could go there tomorrow if that's okay," Emily said while refilling our glasses with wine.
"It is." I took my now-full glass from Emily and took a sip.
Suddenly, I started to feel a little nervous about the date, and my mind filled with questions like "what if afterwards, she dislikes me more than she already does?" But instead, I settled for something that was actually going to be helpful.
"What time should I be ready?"
"We'll go there after work, and before you ask, no, you don't need to dress up. You already look beautiful in your work clothes," she took another sip of her wine, and I blushed, not really used to being complimented. So I changed the topic.
"And how should we act in front of the team? I mean, will there be physical contact like holding hands, touching... even kissing?"
Emily furrowed her eyebrows the way she always did when she was in deep thought and shifted her position to sit more comfortably.
"I think we should keep the PDA to a minimum when we're working, and only increase it when we're out with the team and off the clock," she finally said.
"That makes sense," I nodded and then added, "For how long should we keep up this relationship? I mean, we'll have to end it someday."
"For as long as we want it to last," Emily answered, taking my hand in hers. "If at any point one of us decides that we should break up and stop this, that's what we'll do."
"Okay," I smiled at her.
"We also have another problem," she let go of my hand, and I found myself wanting it back.
"What problem?" I finally asked.
"Penelope," Emily simply answered.
"How is Penelope going to be a problem?" I furrowed my brows.
"After one of the cases that we had earlier on in our careers, she decided to 'keep tabs on us' with a GPS system which she installed in all our devices."
She smiled at me while I processed this new information. I think she's trying to keep her laughter in, but then again, I never was good enough to read her. No one is.
After another minute, she continued.
"All it means is that we'll have to schedule sleepovers once in a while."
This time she did laugh at my expression. I guess alcohol loosened us both a little bit.
I looked at my watch for the first time since I got here and was surprised that it was already almost midnight. But it also meant that I should get going.
"It's getting really late," I said, looking at her and placing my glass of wine on the nearby table. "I should probably go back to my place."
But as I moved to stand, Emily stopped me.
"Or you could stay here. I have a guest bedroom where you can sleep, and in the morning, I can lend you some clothes to wear. Besides, you're in no shape to drive with the amount of wine you've had," she said, making a valid point. Plus, who am I to turn down an offer to spend the night at Emily Prentiss's home?
So instead of an answer, I simply asked, "Do you want to watch a movie?"
"Sure," she grinned at me. "I'll go get us blankets and some popcorn."
And at that moment, all I could think about was how much I wished that this could be real and how much it would hurt when she decided to end it

That's it for today🤗
Hope you're doing okay.
