It was the last day at camp and all the boys were sitting around one large campfire, chatting away about whatever they thought necessary. After Gunwook won the Paintball game last night the prize for the whole team was a large picnic with s'mores for dessert. He decided to share it with the G group after realizing that there was no way only K group could eat all that food.
Yujin had thought that, since the day they all went swimming at the lake, they had gotten closer. When Gunwook and Taerae would sit outside Yujin's contaminated bedroom and tell them about what activities had gone on while he was away, it just supported his thoughts.
It was well past sundown and the bonfire was the only thing illuminating the large group of boys. A large plate had been passed around with graham crackers, chocolate squares, and jumbo marshmallows.
"Why don't we go around and say something that we enjoyed during our stay here?" Hao offered, leaning forward in his lawn chair. "Haruto, you start."
"Alright," he nodded and rubbed his hands together, thinking. "I think my favorite moment was the first day here and Taerae and Yujin tried to smuggle me into the K camp."
"What?" Hao asked, sitting up straight. "Is that true?"
"Well," Taerae started, laughing sheepishly. "I wouldn't say smuggle."
"Too late to worry about that now!" Yujin smiled, brushing it off. Hao seemed to let it go, leaning back in his seat comfortably.
"I guess my favorite part about being here was making new friends and I'm grateful for all of you." Anthony smiled, clasping his hands together awkwardly.
"Screw making friends, I liked the competitiveness of the games and I liked winning." Jongwoo rolled his shoulders confidently. Everyone looked at him, unsure of his response.
"I don't think that's.." Sung Hanbin trailed off, squinting his eyes. "Anyway."
"My parents own the camp company." Ricky announced. "The camp is the same every year; it's not as fun as it used to be. I just like this year's group of kids"
"What?" Ollie shouted, practically jumping out of his seat.
"I knew you were rich!" Gyuvin gasped, pointing his marshmallow-toasting-stick at him. "No commoner would wear that expensive of a watch to play sports!"
"You're being serious?" Yujin asked, watching as Ricky nodded without hesitation. He didn't appear to be lying. He looked to Zhanghao and Hanbin for confirmation.
"Well," Hanbin laughed softly, nodding slowly. He stretched out his arms awkwardly. "Yes, that's true."
"Wow," Zihao breathed. Everyone had the same reactions- shock.
"Well-" Ollie cleared his throat. "While, yes, I was forced to come here, I don't regret it. It was hard in the beginning, but I slowly was able to enjoy myself again." He looked down at the ground, smiling to himself as Kamden fondly patted his back.
"Same," Yujin smiled, nodding in agreement. "This camp was the best thing I've ever accidentally got myself into. I've met many wonderful people and I wish we could all be together forever." he smiled at Gunwook and Taerae- who, in return, either ruffled his hair or nudged him in the ribs. "I want to come back next year."
"I do too," Keita nodded, his cheeks puffed in happiness. Hao and Hanbin shared a grin with each other.
"Let's make an effort to keep in touch." Park Hanbin looked around the group of people as they nodded in agreement.
"Who wants my phone number?" Woonggi announced, crossing his leg over his knee and leaning forward.
Everyone ended up exchanging phone numbers, even talking about creating a group chat when they got home. One thing Yujin learned about being at camp was you didn't have time to be on your phone. He only used it to send goodnight messages to his mother or update her about his health. He knew he was attached to the people here when he declined her offer to pick him up when he was bedridden.
