Freddie sat on his bed with his head in his hands. He had just come back from an orthodontist appointment, so he had lots of time to think. About Sophie, mainly.
He'd like her ever since they'd met, which was one and a half years ago. But he had no way of knowing if she felt the same way; and recently his pessimistic side was starting to win out, and make him feel like she never would.
He rubbed his aching head. This was all so much.
Hey! How was your orthodontist appointment? :) -From Sophie
He allowed a small smile to tug at his lips. Typical Sophie, always remembering the little things, and looking out for him. Even if he'd been acting like a bit of an idiot recently.
He wasn't proud of it, but he'd kind of been trying to... make her jealous. Nothing too big, nothing that might make her feel bad. Just little stuff, like giving a hug to one of her friends instead of her. But she hadn't even seemed to notice.
It was okay. How was school? -From Freddie
It was awesome.... Oh wait, apparently autocorrect changed it, I meant awful. -From Sophie
He grinned again, quietly hoping that it hadn't actually been too bad for her.
They continued to chat via text for another half hour or so before Sophie excused herself to go do homework. Freddie felt the lack of her online presence like he was missing part of his heart. Talking to Sophie was fast becoming the highlight of his day.
But the million dollar question still stuck with him.
Would she ever like him back?
