The atmosphere was dark and dank, the clouds threatening to let tears fall and flood the ground. People hurried and pushed each other around, black and white umbrellas held above them. Muddy puddles formed on the sidewalk, splashing when a careless individual stepped on it in their haste.
You joined the sky in it's crying, rivers of your own flowing through your valley, your hand held out and gripping the door handle of a lonely little café. Nobody would notice the difference between your tears and the rain. The raindrops cascaded down your damp hair, staining your shirt.
You didn't notice, nor did you care.
It's been a year since you broke up with her, seeing her move on quicker than you ever could. You saw her Instagram pictures, the smile on her face and the pride in her eyes. It was hard to let her go when you tried to hold on for so long, but you were happy that she found something she loved to do and was successful.
You, on the other hand, couldn't handle being separated from her. Every night was filled with tired tears and longing sniffles. The sun refused to shine and the flowers didn't bloom, despite the constant rain from your eyes.
You pulled open the café door and ignored the perplexed stares from the other customers. You headed to the table at the very back, wondering if she would really show up.
You didn't know why you did it. Maybe the feeling was too much for you, so you impulsively sent her a text, asking to meet at this place. You expected her to ignore it and go on with her life, but to your surprise she sent a single word.
'Sure.'
The crowd slowly dwindled with every passing hour. You were starting lose hope, if you even had any in the first place. But when you heard the heavy footsteps coming from a familiar pair of boots, you looked up.
There she was, Kim Dahyun, your everything and now your nothing.
She sent you a small smile as if she saw you for the first time.
You felt it, you expected it, but that doesn't mean you were okay with it.
You two were less than strangers.
"You wanted to talk about something?" she asked, taking a seat opposite you. You drummed your fingers on the table, growing conscious of the awkward tension blooming.
You didn't know why you asked to meet her. Maybe you just needed to see her once more before fully accepting she was no longer yours.
"You were my world," you whispered. "I missed you. I needed you. I let you use me."
She sighed, bowing her head. "It wasn't working out, Y/N."
"If you gave a little more effort, maybe it would've!"
"I gave it my all. You know keeping our relationship would've broken both of us. Breaking up was for the best."
"You wouldn't think it was for the best if you saw me now," you scoffed. Dahyun didn't answer, making you sigh.
Another moment or two passed in silence, your fingers still continuing their restless tapping.
"Did you really love me?" you asked vulnerably.
The girl facing you hesitated, before answering, "I loved you. Really."
She stood up to leave. "I need to go now. I.. See you around, I guess."
But as she passed you, you grabbed her hand. She tilted her head with a confused expression. "If the world was ending," you paused, but gathered the courage to continue, "you'd come over, right?"
"Yeah."
Your lips twitched. "Okay."
And you let her go, watching as she exited and brought out an umbrella.
