"hey tina!" i said as i picked up my phone.

"hey scarlett, could you meet up at the starbucks near camp nou?" she asked.

"sure," i said. "be there in ten."

tina usually met with me after training, so i was slightly confused. i got dressed in some sweatpants and a maroon t shirt before heading out.

"xavi!" i yelled out.

"que?" he yelled from his office. he spent most of his time in there, usually working on plays or promotions for the men's team.

i'm on the women's team, but xavi sometimes worked with us too, "i'm heading to starbucks to meet with tina!"

"okay pero, be back before 6:00. we have to go to dinner at 8:00."

"okay."

i headed outside and started walking towards the starbucks. most of the time i came here to study, along with being on the football team i attended university of barcelona. mostly because if i ever got injured i needed to have a backup plan, also because i loved learning. as weird as it may sound.

i arrived to the starbucks to see tina sitting at a table, along with gavi and i think his manager. i furrowed my eyebrows before going to sit down across from gavi.

"so tina...why did you ask me to meet on a thursday at 4:00pm?" i asked her suspiciously.

"we have a proposal for you, and gavi of course," gavis manager, linda, explained.

"so you guys know how you guys are the youngest on each team, and you two are barcelonas rising stars," tina said.

"well there has been speculation on the internet that you guys have been dating," linda said slowly.

"and well...we think it would be a good idea for the two of you to...fake date for a few months." tina said.

"hold up hold up, you want us to fake date?!" i whisper shouted.

"yes," linda said with a nod.

"that's ridiculous," pablo said, and i was surprised he had even said anything. according to pedri he was always really shy.

"please! it would just be for a little while. plus you guys would get more fame, and more supporters." tina said.

pablo and i shared a look, we hadn't really interacted that much. but we knew enough about each other to know that we would both do anything for football.

"fine," we said in unison.

"great so you guys need to hang out for awhile, talk to you tomorrow," tina said quickly before walking out.

"huh?" i said, and i watched as they walked away.

"i swear this is the weirdest situation i've ever been in," pablo mumbled.

"oh i've been in weirder." i said.

"i don't think i want to know," he said.

"yeah probably not," i said with a grin.

"well should we at least order a coffee?" he asked me.

"yeah sure." i said and we both got up from the table.

"ill have a coffee, black," i said when it was my turn to order.

"who drinks coffee black?" he asked wildly.

"insomniacs," i said with a grin.

i leaned towards the barista, sofia, who just so happened to be my best friend and classmate, and spoke in a whisper, "did you hear all that?"

"yeah ill come over tonight so we can discuss this," she said and i smiled.

i went over and stood by gavi who was waiting for the coffees. we stood in an awkward silence while sofia took an excruciatingly long time to make the coffees.

"well this is awkward," i said as rocked on my feet.

"you know even though this situation is...not ideal we could still be friends." he suggested and i nodded.

"finally," i muttered when they announced that the coffees were ready. i immediately started chugging the coffee and pablo stared at me wide-eyed.

"i like coffee," i said with a shrug.

"sooo," he said as we walked outside and into the streets of barcelona. i always admired the architecture here, it was different from portugal.

"you're from portugal, right?" he asked.

"it's a long story," i said without looking at him.

"well i have some time," he said, and he looked at me like he truly wanted to know.

"i'm from the united states, but i moved to portugal when i was 14. i moved to spain when i was 17, so i could move in with xavi," i said. i was trying not to go too deep into the story, but he still asked.

"why'd you move from the states?" he asked and i looked down at the coffee in my hand.

"my dad left," i said quietly.

"oh, scarlett," he said. and he set down his coffee on a nearby table and pulled me into a hug. he didn't say he was sorry, he didn't do anything that people normally did. he didn't pity me either.

he looked at me like he admired me, like he thought i was tough for pulling through. and i was grateful.

"it's fine," i told him. i felt my phone vibrate in my pocket so i took it out of my pocket and answered it.

"finally, you answered," a voice said.

"what do you want, joao?" i asked, jokingly.

"i just saw an article that says you and gavi are dating," he said. i stopped in my tracks and gavi looked at me confused.

"what?!" i exclaimed, when i finally managed to get words out.

"yeah, i was looking through instagram and there was a picture of you two together at a starbucks i think and there was a link to an article with it."

"how does the paparazzi work this fast?" i muttered.

"honestly i don't know," he said.

"look, i've gotta go. but ill call you tonight," i said before going to hang up on him.

"wait is it true or not?" i heard him say as i hung up.

"what happened." gavi asked, and i turned to him.

"there was an article released about us dating," i told him.

"already?"

"that's what i said, my guess is that rina or linda tipped somebody off." i said.

"probably," he said with a nod.

i checked the time before speaking, "look i've gotta head back to xavi's, uhm i'll talk to you later okay?"

i walked off before waiting for an answer.

whoo, what a day.
