It was 1:59pm
The door to the room with orange walls swung open, and Maeve walked inside holding a bottle, the drink giving off an icy breeze as a result of its cool temperature. He had removed it just before it began freezing, causing soft ice to float aimlessly in the middle.
He walked over to the table that held up a desktop, and propped the drink on it. He moved the mouse and clicked a few times before he brought out his phone and tapped it before he set it down on the table. He made a call. It rung and almost immediately connected.
"It's 2pm on the dot Maeve, How do you manage to do it every time?" a voice called out from the other end. He turned to look at his phone time, it was exactly as the voice had said, 2 in the afternoon
Maeve smiled shyly at the praise
"It takes hard work and pure talent" he replied
" Can I borrow some of yours for work then?" The voice asked
" Absolutely not Joel, now stop stalling and join me in the lobby"
"Alright" a few clicks sounded from his phone.
Every day since they had stumbled upon each other (two years and counting)they had made it a habit, a responsibility to call, connect and play a few rounds of the game on which they had met on. The time held no significance to them however, for it was the only time of the day when they both had a free schedule.
'Jking' was Joel's internet name while Mae's was the same for he hadn't bothered to think of a creative name to use online, so he used his real name instead
When the username popped up, Joel's voice was heard from the other end.
"Ok I see you, Ready!"
"Perfect"
He moved his mouse and clicked which caused his screen to darken, before it showed a background of a large office building, it was messy with laptops and papers and staplers strewn everywhere. This was the game scene. Where they had to move their characters to hide from other players whilst trying to find missing items given by the game. It sometimes involved fighting, but only when necessary.
It was a gigantic and wonderful cross between beloved children's game Hide and seek and Treasure huntingThere was not much sound apart from the clicking of mouses, that is until Mae's character killed Joel's and stole his 'loot'
"I hate it that you're so good" Joel spoke in mock anger, probably making a face at his phone.
"Loser talk"
"Just keep playing" was Joel's weak retort
After sometime and a lot of losses from Joel's end, after making sure his friend was in a good mood, Joel spoke up
"You have got to teach me to play better" he danced around the subject first.
" I might have to think about it, you know, really chew on the decision" Maeve answered
" I know you, you don't need a long time to think" a gasp from Maeve
" We both know you'd jump at the chance to teach me"
" Even if I could 'jump at the chance' how would I be able to teach you over the phone" Maeve spoke taking a sip from his already less than half bottle.
Right there ! Joel took the hint to say something
"You could teach me in person"
Mae stiffened but didn't say anything
"Come on, Mae it's been two years, It would be wonderful to see you, in fact I'm sure I'd love it" Joel spoke careful with his words to not sound pushy
" I know, me too, but....."
