CHAPTER ELEVEN: DEVASTATING

Chase your stars fool, life is short.
-Atticus Poetry

Although I was sure he'd say no because of how overwhelming it could be, Demetrius agreed to make breakfast and spend a good chunk of the day with me and my parents the very first time I asked.

Me being excited, I turned off the very first alarm that rang out, climbed out of bed and got ready at record time, passing my mom as she set out the ingredients for everything and Papa as he tiredly and grumpily drinks hot chocolate.

I was speeding down the street towards his apartment on my bike and clicking on the button for him to buzz me up.

Perfectly on time I think, well aware that I'm about an entire half an hour early.

After a few minutes of my- -constant and probably annoying buzzing- -my phone rings out with a message.

7:32 - Mine <3:
? that's you, correct

7:32 - Me:
LET ME UP ! I HAVE A SHAKE FOR YOU >:D

Immediately, he sends a purple heart right back and buzzes me in, so of course I run (as safely as I can with not only his mixed berry shake, but no sports bra) right to his apartment on the third fucking floor.

Knocking and ringing in sync, because I don't know if he has his hearing aids in, I wait rather impatiently on the other side.

"Hi," He waves, motioning me in and then pointing up to his ears as he signs "No." so I know they're not in.

"You look hot with wet hair," I instantly take to signing, bouncing into his apartment, feeling the cold air hit the back of my bare legs almost instantly. Today was not the right day to wear nothing but a short skirt and fishnets. "For you."

I hold out the milkshake with a grin, struggling to keep my eyes dropping past his mix-matched ones. He is wearing nothing but tight sweatpants and a towel around his neck and it's making me a bit red.

"Thank you," Leaning down, he kisses my forehead and I'm able to feel the scruff that he normally shaves off. He looks good with it on, but then again, he looks good anyway. "Sorry, was in the shower. Early."

"I know, sorry too. You excited?" I give him a cheeky grin, leaning in to bonk my forehead against his collarbones. "I'm excited!"

"Can tell," Laughing a bit, his voice is both deeper but over-pronouncing more as well. "Excited, yes. Nervous."

Then he's crouching down and not only picking up one white cat that has heterochromia, but letting a second black one jump on his back to hold them both in his arms. I squeal, bouncing on my heels as I watch them blink slowly up at him with full trust.

Holy shit, they are so cute.

Demy literally is cradling Salt like a baby while having Pepper stand on his shoulder, rubbing against his neck. He talks to them in nonsensical language, something that sounds close to 'babes' and coos at the cuddly cats for a few moments before looking up at me, continuing to mumble before he says, "Distracted. Babies! See?"

"I see." I sign back, grateful he couldn't hear the embarrassing squeal when I saw the adorable cat. "Salt?"

"The white one, Pepper is this madman." He pokes the white one's nose before wiggling the shoulder that the black one is sitting on. "They're lovely and bit-ter and cute."

Nodding, I reach out to let Pepper sniff me and after a good minute of him deciding, he leans into me- -putting a paw on Salt's face- -and it makes me grinning, signing with one hand.
