To her relief, the guards seemed to buy her story, and she was allowed to pass through the border crossing. She knew that the real challenge still lay ahead, in the kingdom's heart where the artifact would be hidden.
As the sun sank below the horizon and the shadows lengthened, Ava spurred her horse to reach her destination before nightfall. She felt the weight of her mission on her shoulders, but also the thrill of adventure and discovery. She was now in the Kingdom of Shadows, and nothing would stop her from reaching her destination.
