You and Kuroo reached an unspoken agreement. The two of you were inseparable and were only not dating by name. The time preceding the National tournament was spent with Kuroo giving it his all in practices and balancing his schoolwork on the side. Meanwhile you were working overtime to support the team and finally getting around to filling out your applications for Tokyo University. The little moments you had to spare in between practices was filled with being touchy-feely Kuroo. The rest of the team quickly picked up on it and while Yamamoto was crushed at Kuroo getting a girlfriend before him, the scheming captain had manipulated this into motivation for Yamamoto putting his all as an ace.
Although nationals were called the Spring Tournament, it actually began in January and would be held at the grand Tokyo Metropolitan Gym. With only a few weeks until Nationals, you were confused as to why Kuroo called you out to meet on the weekend.
You threw on a coat and opened your front door to be met with a smirking Kuroo. He silently grabbed your hand and began to lead you away.
"Where are we going?"
"It's called a surprise for a reason, Chiiibi-chan."
You rolled your eyes and followed the scheming captain compliantly. The walk was in silence with both of you simply enjoying each other's presence. Kuroo took a couple turns here and there before finally stopping and raising his arms as if to say 'ta-da!'.
Stepping around him curiously to see what the big deal was, you gasped at the view. Even though you were in the concrete jungle that was Tokyo, he had led you to a park with a giant river running through. Since you were hit with a particularly cold winter this year, the river was frozen over and the trees overhanging and lining the river were frozen with dew droplets, appearing like crystalized flowers in full bloom.
"Merry Christmas," Kuroo said, pleased with your awestruck expression.
You twirled to face him in surprise, pulling your phone out of your pocket to check the date. "It's Christmas?!"
He pouted, "Aww don't tell me you forgot. It's hard being the only romantic in this relationship," he sighed and flailed dramatically.
You blushed on top of your already reddened cheeks from the cold, "Shut up Rooster-head," you mumbled, embarrassed.
Kuroo smiled gently at you, "I'm just teasing Shortcake. Hold still."
He reached into his coat and pulled out a red and black plaid scarf that matched his own. Kuroo wrapped the scarf around your nape, using it to pull your body towards him, then wrapped the other end around your neck.
You glanced down at the scarf and rubbed the soft fabric. Admiring the scarf you glanced back up at Kuroo, "Thanks Ku- I mean Tetsurou... I feel so bad I didn't get you anything."
He cocked his head, "What are you talking about, you already got me a gift?"
Your face scrunched in confusion, having no idea what he was referring to.
Mischief flickered in Kuroo's eyes as he snuck a kiss from you. "You're my gift."
You paused, slightly taken aback before pretending to throw up. "You're so cheesy, Tetsu."
He hummed, "Hmmm, you know you love it."
Sighing in defeat, "You got me this time Tetsu, close your eyes and I'll give you your gift."
His eyes widened in surprise for a nano-second and he promptly closed his eyes, appearing arrogant even with his eyes shut.
Feeling mischievous yourself, an idea popped into your head as you feigned leaning in to kiss Kuroo. You had quickly gathered a bit of snow into your palm and shoved it into his lips.
