Omar
It's been three weeks since the new girl moved in and Julian won't shut up about her. Apparently they have become best friends. She even helps take chewy to school a few days a week.
Today she picked him up from school because Julian and his mom were both at work. When I picked Julian up after my own shift at the center he asked if I'd mind going with him to pick him up.
He thinks it's time we get over our first encounter and maybe he is right. So when we get home I shove my hands in my pockets and follow him up the stairs to her door.
He shocks the hell outta me by not knocking and just walking right in.
"Honey I'm home!" He yells smiling ear to ear. I have no idea why but I hate it.
"In here love!" She yells.
I hate that even more.
We followed her voice to the kitchen. She is standing next to the oven and chewy is on a step stool laughing while he throws flour at her. She just giggles and shakes her hair out.
"What are you doing?" Julian laughs.
She turns chuckling and wipes her face. "We made cookies." She sees me and she tenses. Her eyes fly to Julian's.
"Oh Kim, this is Omar. Omar you've met Kim, but you weren't very nice about it if I recall." He says walking up to her and kissing her cheek before ruffling Chewy's hair. I shoot him a dirty look as I cross my arms.
"Look Julian!" Chewy says excitedly holding up a giant chocolate chip cookie.
"He had fun." Kim says, smiling back at them. "Why don't you go clean up sweetie and I'll pack the cookies for you to take home to your mom ok?" She says picking him up and kissing his head before sitting him down and pushing him towards the hallway.
"Hey did you find his other sweater?" Julian asks her, stealing a cookie.
"Yeah it was in my room with his blanket. Here let me get it. Help yourself." She says looking at me with a weak smile. She stops to whisper in Julian's ear.
I frown. I know I came off kind of hard on her. But I really hated that Julian got nicknames and kisses and I got a half ass smile. I look at Julian.
He meets my eyes and bugs them. "What?"
I look away as we hear Chewy running back towards the kitchen. He hands me a cookie so I take a bite ... then gag.
Julian laughs and so does Chewy. Kim comes back and I glare at her. She starts laughing and hands the sweater to Chewy and the blanket to Julian.
She swats him on the arm. "You couldn't at least wait till I got back!" She laughs.
What the hell?!
"You did that shit on purpose?! What's in that?!" I yell, spitting it out and going to the sink to wash my mouth. The water barely turns on, it's just a drizzle. But I collect enough to rinse and spit.
"Hey turn that off!" She says running up and turning off the faucet. I look at her questioningly while still holding my sour face. "Sorry it leaks through the bottom, so I never use it. I use the bathroom."
"His face was priceless." Chewy giggles from behind us.
Kim turns and laughs at him before meeting back at me. I know I'm staring daggers at her and I'm trying to continue to be mad but her eyes are distracting. Being this close to her.. I remember how beautiful she was on the day we first met in her form fitting scrubs. Even now in yoga pants and a lose shirt and her hair in a tight bun she looks beautiful.
