"I just don't know what's up with her lately," Justin started as they trotted through the dark path they knew all too well. "I feel like she listens to her friends more then me!"
"Just try not to think about it Justin," Jason said as he pulled back a branch and walked through the way.
The path was lit with nothing but the light of the orbed moon. The pines were sleeping leaving no sounds but the subtle cry of a cricket to be heard. The shadows of the boys blanked the dewy grass beneath them. The night seemed to have stopped, and waited just for them.
"Justin," Jason started and broke through the piercing silence, "I just don't want you to be in a situation that you don't benefit from."
"What?" Justin asked, suddenly his cheeks burned red and he was appalled at the overstep of his friend, "So we get in one fight and now we just should break up?" He snarled. The raise in his voice led to the clamor of the once peaceful nature around him.
"God can you be so narcissistic?" Jason yelled back, "I'm looking out for you Justin and you're seriously yelling at me?"
"Maybe you don't need to be in my business Jason!" Justin asserted as he pushed back Jason.
The two exchanged remarks and shoved one another until there was nothing left to be said. The silence of the night they thought they had heard before was nothing compared to the shrewd stillness that filled the air around them now.
As Justin looked into Jason's eyes, expecting another insult he instead found a warmth within them. His eyes softened and he shared a glance that was worth a thousand sonnets. They didn't need to say anything because it was clear they both knew.
Jason pulled Justin in and just as the two's lips had met when they were interrupted. The sound of "Mask" by Dream played, Justin's ringtone. Justin had been crudely slapped back into realty when he saw Adris's contact, "My shawty bae 😍" was calling him.
"Jason I- I cant." He yelped as he thrust through the barren and wild trail.
Leaving Jason alone deep within the forest....
