Ever since I was a little girl I knew I was different. I didn't like playing with dolls or wearing dresses. I spent most of my time with my older cousins, playing video games and skating around town. They put me on to everything I know. But they moved on and I stayed here.

I maintained pretty quiet at school until I met Estee. That was my freshman year, I'm a junior now and we've been best friends since. She's always known how to have fun and the right people to do it with.

I was sitting at home watching a movie on the tv when I got a text from Estee.

"LYRIC! gabi is having this party 2nite since her parents are gone and i need to pick up some things from the store. wanna come along?"

"pick me up in 10"

I got up and got dressed before Estee came. As soon I put my shoes on I heard her honk from outside. I grabbed my bag and walked to the door.

"Bye mom I love you!" I yelled from the door. I waited on a response but I only heard the sound of my crying brother.

As I walked out I seen Estee waving at me from her car, big smile on her face. "Bitch you look so cute! You ready?"

"Yes thank you. The house is so loud with the new baby." I sighed, throwing my bag in the back seat.

"Oh of course, does that mean you're coming to the party tonight?" she looked over at me and smiled. "Duh" I replied, "If you see Estee you gonna see Lyric too"

We pulled up to a small market and we got out. The sun was setting and it felt amazing outside; I couldn't explain it but it smelled like summer.

I noticed a skateboard shop next to it market I haven't seen before. "Can we go in there real quick?" I asked. Estee looked over and nodded.

We walked in and immediately my eyes went to the group of boys in the back. Well... mostly the boy with the golden curls. They were all crowded together, focused on the small tv in front of them.

"Hey boys!" Estee walked up and greeted them as I followed behind. "What's up Estee" said the boy with the locs.

"You guys know each other?" I questioned. "Yea I met them a few years ago, I think it was here actually" Estee replied. They all nodded in agreement.

Estee introduced me to them all and they all dabbed me up. "So are you guys coming to Gabi's party?" she put her hand out waiting for their answer. "Shii if your pretty friend is gonna be there" Fuckshit exclaimed. I laughed and looked down at my feet. "I'll be there" I interjected. He smiled at me and rubbed his hands together "I'll be there too then mama"

We all laughed and talked for a bit longer before leaving.

I ended up buying a t shirt and some posters for my room. Estee got what she needed from the market and we headed to Gabi's to set things up.

"Fuckshit is a player" Estee said. I looked at her with confusion. "He says stuff like that to every girl. I wouldn't mess with him Lyric" she added. "I won't, you know I don't date" I replied. She looked over and nodded. I grabbed her hand and reassured her again. "I promise"
