Zombie apocalypse AU

Sam was silently crying. He checked himself for bites after their last adventure out and found a bite. He was bitten. He didn't know how, but he was. He thought back, "How could that happen?"

Sam was running. He was running and fell. He was panicking and looked around. He looked back and saw the zombies get closer. He warned his friends.
Ah yes, friends. He told them to run. He'd hold the horde off. Don't leave me, please. But it went unheard. He didn't voice his thoughts. They asked why he couldn't just come. He broke his ankle, probably. Maybe it was just a sprain. Yes, he sprained his ankle, so he should be able to stand up.
But he can't. He can't, and oh God, now the zombies are closer than ever. Looking at them hes sure he's seen some of the people once before, either while they were shopping or driving home. Some even on a playground with their family or a park with their pets. He's seen some faces before this whole thing and has seen their normal lives.
They're not monsters, no. They were normal people before, and now they're those. Those monsters that appear in your nightmares or in films. The ones you never thought you'd see in real life, saying you'd be dead by then, so it didn't scare you.
But no, they're real now, and they're scary, mutating every few months. There's runners now and jumpers. Some are even both. He was scared. He didn't want to turn. He wanted to live normally with his friends. Friends? They were more than that by now.
They weren't just friends anymore, the Endless cuddles at night and words of affirmation say otherwise. And then there is that night. That beautiful lustful night where they were cold and decided to heat up in other ways. Their hands sometimes still like phantoms roaming around his body. They were not friends, no, they were lovers.
His mind was cut short as his lovers pulled him to stand, and pain sparked through his body. Yeah, it was broken. He told them to leave him. Why didn't they? Why did they come back and save him? They could've survived without him. They could've run and reached the end of this wretched place.
Ah, yes. Where were they? Sam couldn't remember. He remembered going into somewhere and going deeper, finding dead bodies that seemed to try and survive the apocalypse. They went so deep that they seemed to be walking in tunnels built under the city to walk along, as to not have contact with zombies. But here we see how that ended.
As Sam was in deep thought, they seemed to arrive at the end... no, it was just a door that separates the tunnels. That if one half fills, the other half is fine. But is it? They don't know what could be on the other side, but it was worth trying to survive.
Foolish tried to open the door as ponk held on to Sam. His movements were fast but panicked. Sam looked back once and saw them getting closer, so he did what any reasonable person would do. He told them he'd hold them off. He'd otherwise be dead weight to them.
Ponk screamed at him. "Are you crazy!?" And other words were thrown at him. But how could he not help them? He would be a nuisance if they took him with them. He didn't want that. He wanted to be helpful and save them some time. So he took out his gun and started firing some zombies dead instead. If they don't want him to sacrifice himself, he could at least kill some.
The occasional runner and pre-mutation zombies were shot by Sam, ponk jumping in shortly. Foolish got the door open after a bit, and ponk pulled Sam after him. Sam was limping and making his leg worse. After foolish closed the door again, they took a short break of walking.
Zombies were trying to get through to them, reaching but not enough. Sam stared.this was a mistake. They shouldn't have done this. They should have left him. He's dead weight. He'll die soon, eventually. No, He's already dead. A sudden dread sinking deep, what if there is more where they're going? Sam looks down the tunnel.
Ponk and foolish stood up again and pulled Sam out of his thoughts. They were helping him stand up and put his arm around ponk. With the help of Foolish, they stabilized Sam and went further.
The groans of zombies were slowly turning silent the more they moved along. A silence settled, and they went along swiftly.
They reach the end of a tunnel, and there is a ladder. The only way up. Ponk and foolish made a plan to get Sam up. Meanwhile, Sam listened to what he could hear up there. Groans. Quiet but still there. There are zombies up there. He tried to tell them, but they were already at the ladder. Surely, they hear them.
They didn't. They sent Ponk up first, then Sam, and afterward, Foolish. Ponk was at the top and signaled he heard zombies. Sam was right.
Ponk said he heard 3 or 4. That's not right. There are more. Ponk moved and opened the trapdoor. He heard a struggle of a zombie and ponk calling them up. After Ponk helped Sam out and foolish emerged out of the hole, they scanned the room.It was a storage room, big enough to house 20 people in case of emergency. There was still food, and it was still good. So Foolish packed some. Sam sat at a wall and looked at his ankle. Yeah, it was broken. Maybe it was sprained before they ran. Before he made it worse.
The silent groans outside of the room always moved. Sometimes, on the right, sometimes left. But always near. Sam heard more, though. His sensitive creeper ears picking up most of the buildings sound. There were 10 near the room. 100 in the whole building. And 10 humans in the building, them excluded. He told his lovers, and they were talking about a plan right now.

That'd all Sam really remembers except for screaming running and zombies breaking in. He held his head in his hands. It was all his fault. If he had been more stubborn. If they wouldn't have taken him with them. Sam stood up and limped to the window. He looked over the broken city one last time. He knew they had to kill and burn his body. There was no other way.
Sam slowly turned around to one of his boyfriends waking up. "Sammy? What are you doing up? Are those tear tracks!? What's wrong??" Foolish stood up fast and wrapped his arms around Sam. Sam looked at him and closed his eyes right after. "I found a bite..." Sam threw his head into Foolish's chest, mumbling. It was close to silent, but Foolish heard it. He started tearing up. "No.. no, no, no, no! Please say it's a lie! PLEASE!" Foolish grabbed Sam's chin and made him look up. But he didn't find a trace of a lie. He was saying the truth. Sam was bitten, and there's nothing they could do.
Sam cuddled up to Foolish once more, full on sobbing into his shirt. Ponk woke up to the sound and went to them. Foolish explained the situation, and Ponk started crying. He threw his arms around the two and was also sobbing now.
Ponk, Foolish, and Sam were cuddling for the last time. Sharing a love filled kiss for the last time. Sharing touches with Sam for the last time. They were heartbroken.
They stood outside. Sam in front of the two. They were crying. Foolish held the gun to Sam's head. Sam smiled for the last time. And Foolish shot. Sam was dead.
Such were Foolish and Ponk.
