My phone buzzed on the counter.
Revealing a message from Aimee. 'Hey, do you think it's him?' Aimee texted me.
I sent a quick reply of 'I'm not sure,' and I put my phone on the table as I grab my breakfast from the toaster.
A fudge pop tart. A sigh escaped my lips, nervousness in my stomach. If it was, I couldn't do anything about it. Neither could Aimee.
I've decided to walk to school today. I grab my bag and keys before shouting goodbye to my mom and I walked out of the door. I heard my mom shout back before I shut the door, and I smile.
The school was only a 20-minute walk away from my house, so it wasn't too bad. The streets were quiet this morning. Which I was thankful for.
The scenic route to school was beautiful. Leaves had started falling from the trees and there was many cottages where I lived. A small tight knit community.
Ten minutes into my walk I hear someone call my name.
'Mary?' I turned around to see link and someone else walking behind her.
Link ran up to me, tripping on the curb and almost broke her ankle in the progress. 'Ow.'
'You alright?' I catch her before she fell down.
Link sucked in a breath and gave me a thumbs up. 'Fantastic.' Her voice came out higher than normal.
'I guess these boots and running don't go together then.' She smiled and looked down at her chunky demonias.
'You alright?' A boy in a football strip came running towards links side. 'i'm fine. This is Mary by the way. Mary this is Jackson, my brother.'
Jackson was a skinny tall boy, with brown curly hair. He smiled, showing his dimples. 'hi.'
'Hey.' I wave and we all started walking to school, I notice link had a little limp beside me. 'are you sure your ankle is fine?'
Link nodded. 'a bit sore, if it still hurts I'll go to the nurse to get the famous line of 'put an ice pack on it.'' She grinned.
'true, that's what they all say, arm is hanging off? Ice. Headache? Ice. Dying? Have some more ice.' Jackson laughed.
I smile. it was the truth.
As soon as we turned the corner, our talk died down, the only sounds being nature and cars.
'Best first chat ever!' Link laughed, breaking the Silence that engulfed us all.
Jackson laughed. 'I don't know what to talk about.'
'I've got English first.' Link smiled. 'that's something we can talk about.'
'Ah, I've got home ec' I smile.
'Yo, so do I.' Jackson smiled and out his hand up for a high five, to which I high fived. 'Then football straight after. Yikes.'
'you better save some of that baking for me. I'll be coming to your door after.' Link pointed at Jackson.
'slightly threatening, but alright then.' Jackson laughed.
'remember what I said.' Link made the 'i'm watching you.' Sign before she went up the stairs.
I laugh. 'is she always like that?'
Jackson nodded. 'yes, yes she is. I wouldn't change her for the world.'

'burnt my cake.' I say as I glance at the mess in the oven. 'Of course.' Little smoke spirals shot into the air and vanished.A laugh came from next to me. 'Damn. That.' He sucked in a breath. 'I have no words for.'
My cake looked like a mud cake. It had risen up, then drooped down. I grab an oven glove and take the cake out of the oven, stabbing a knife into it, it came out clean surprisingly. As I did, more smoke spiralled up and disappeared into the air, like little whisps.
'You could always have mine?' He offered as he put his cake onto the cooling rack. His cake looked good, golden and baked to perfection. I sigh and wipe my hands on my face.
Everyone else seemed preoccupied with their own baking to notice that I had burned my cake. So that was a relief.
'Psh nah. Don't worry, it's only a little bit burnt.' I make a face at the cake. Like that would do anything. Make it more foul if anything.
'you put the temperature too high.' Jackson laughed as he examined my oven more. I glance at the temperature. 350 instead of 250.
'great.' I sigh. 'I mean, it's not an assignment so it's okay, I'll do better next time.' I smile, not sure if I belive myself.
'hopefully.' I smile and let my hair down.
'remember class, you can always leave your cake and come back for it at the end of the day. Leave it in the fridge or the counter, your cakes will be safe. I'll lock the doors at break times so no-one steals them.' Our teacher, Mr. lightheart laughed. 'Sure, would be a shame.' Jeremy grinned from the back of the class.
Jerome was the class clown. 'it would be, which is why I'm locking the doors at break time, so nobody gets in or out.'
'Slightly threatening there sir.'
