*Ten: Oliver*
When Lucas and I entered the restaurant, we spotted Lily, who waved us over to our booth. She and Adam stood up and smiled as we approached. Wow, he was cute. A handsome redhead with stylish glasses and a nice haircut. He definitely looked like Lily's type.
"Hey, Ollie," she greeted me cheerily, giving me a hug. "Nice to see you again, Luke."
"Back at ya," Lucas smiled, hugging her as well.
"So guys, this is Adam," Lily grinned. "Adam, this is Oliver and Lucas."
"Nice to meet you guys," he said, shaking our hands.
We all sat down in the booth just as the waiter came over to take our drink orders. I never drank, but Lucas always ordered something with alcohol in it if we went out. And usually with him, one drink led to another, and another. And anything could happen after that, with regards to his temper. But I was quite surprised when he ordered a simple diet coke. I looked at him in approval and he smiled slightly. He was trying so hard.
Adam turned out to be a really fun conversationalist. He was a social media coordinator for an up-and-coming fashion magazine here in NYC and knew a ton about fashion, and the way he and Lily argued about trends was hilarious. He was also looking for a good gym to join and a personal trainer, so Luke referred him and basically scored another client. We fired off lots of questions about Lily and Adam's blossoming relationship. They reminded me so much of when Luke and I had just started dating, back when we had no real worries or problems. Back when our dating was all in fun and before things got serious. The honeymoon phase. I could remember it like it was yesterday.
The meal was really fantastic. Or, it may have just seemed that way to me since Lucas and I rarely got to eat out. He cooked at home sometimes, but usually there wasn't time. So most nights it was takeout or order-in. But real food was my favorite kind of food.
Conversation progressed to music preferences around dessert.
"I like what everyone else likes," Adam laughed. "I'm pretty mainstream. Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Cobaltic Acid."
"Oh, get this," Lily said to Adam, "Oliver is going on tour with them this summer."
My heart dropped into my stomach.
"With who?" Adam asked, raising an eyebrow as Lucas did the same.
"Cobaltic Acid."
"For what?"
"He's their new merch boy."
Adam's jaw dropped. "You lucky bastard!" he gasped.
"You're doing what?" Lucas laughed. I felt nauseous as I rubbed my face with one hand.
