Nothing.

Pure silence.

It was what Damian had given her.

He had seemingly fallen asleep, leaving her with her thoughts and new sensations. Damian had then stayed silent until it had felt like a whole week had gone by. At that point, he had finally said something but...

It only had been to tell her it was time to leave.

How he could tell the sun was gone, she did not know and she did not ask. It was obvious he did not wish to speak with her and she didn't intend on pushing the issue. What would she talk about?

The fact she had gotten wet? Because of his lips on her neck?

No, it would be much too shameful. It was better this way, much better. Now, she agreed with him; he shouldn't feed on her. It might lead down a path she wasn't ready to take. Every sensation, every touch was new to her. Her body felt like it was on overdrive, overreacting to everything.

She could do this.

They would keep their distance, do their part together, and then split up. It would be fine. It was fine. Though Bethanie never dealt well with nervous silence, and this one was absolutely driving her mad.

She wanted to talk.

She needed to talk.

But he wasn't saying a word.

Honestly, it wasn't like all this was her fault.

He taunted her. Despite the fact he despised everything related to her and what he was. He had to admit it was a bit confusing. Most of the time, he couldn't use her name and he stayed away from her. He would mock her, tease her...

And then he made out with her neck.

Excuse me for trying to understand your weird ass. Were vampires the only illogical ones, or were men like that in general? Wasn't like she knew.

He would have to talk to her eventually. Alright, he wouldn't have to, but she needed him to do it. She knew nothing of the world and he was her only contact at the moment. She had to get as much information out of him as she could.

What to do, what to avoid, how to be on the run for the rest of her life...

There were too many unanswered questions for her.

Now they were walking, actually where there were other people. At some point, they left the fields, the forests, and the hidden world, and they crossed sidewalks, people, and nightlife.

Which was something she had heard about, but had never seen with her own eyes. It was overwhelming. Bethanie stopped, looking around at the neon signs flashing through the blackness of the night. There were various pieces of music booming through the air, laced with the sounds of voices.

Some were fighting.

Some were laughing.

So many people.

Even at her party with Filip, she had never seen so many people crowded together. Everywhere, something was happening, something pulling her attention away from the matter at hand.

She had thought they might stay once more in a crummy place in the middle of nowhere, but now, she wasn't convinced anymore. Where was he taking her? She couldn't spot a safe spot. He couldn't stay anywhere, could he?

Bethanie knew that vampires like Filip, the wealthy ones, the ones who traveled in groups, had many ways to protect themselves and navigate the human world undetected but... Damian was alone. All alone.
