The time was almost 11:00. As the day progressed, darkness descended upon the night sky, as well as the bags under your eyes. Your new job as a barista has been unnecessarily complicated. It's been an exhausting afternoon, dealing with difficult customers and their endless requests. It was crazy how there were so many older women and men harassing you for making the smallest mistake in their order when it was so easy to correct!

You felt relieved to be home, the comfort of your own apartment reminding you of how you were now in a stress-free environment. You were immediately tempted to halt by the fragrance of sugared fruits coming from a nearby candle. Nobody else was home? Well, not that you knew of. There was only one person you knew was truly permitted to arrive unannounced.

If only you knew what you were in for.

Two arms suddenly sweep around you from behind, sending your heart skipping a beat! You turn around to find your girlfriend's eyes twinkling with delight, a wide smile on her complexion.

April was always there to greet you with a warm embrace. She listens to your day's problems, and you feel your stress melt away as you vent your irritations. Your gratitude for her presence was inexpressible. No matter what, she always understood you as a person and as a whole.

"Hey, babe!" April beamed. "How was your day?"

You softly chuckled, sinking in her embrace. "It was okay."

An audible sigh escaped her nose. "Wrong answer. I know that tone. What's going on, girl?"

You were always polite to your other half. April, being extremely empathetic herself, couldn't help but feel concerned when an uneasy look grasped your face.

"What's the matter?" April asked, her voice lightly soothing.

"I just..." you took a deep breath. "There's too much going on right now. My boss. He's been on my a$$ all day at work, April! It's insane! Customers will find the smallest detail about their food or drink that they're unhappy about and then dramatically complain to me. Not only that, but all the homework my professors are handing out? It's almost finals week! I have exams! I have to study!" Your voice rang out in an exasperated tone. April's shoulders dropped in sympathy.

"Aw, girl." She took your hand and drew you into a gentle embrace. "We'll get through this together." April released you and looked you in the eyes. "Take a break, babe. You need to take care of yourself too. Here, I know the perfect thing to cheer you up!" She smiled reassuringly and squeezed your hand.

"Go to your room for a minute. I'll be right back!"

Minutes passed in my room as I waited for April. The breeze in my room was cool; my windows were just slightly cracked, and the candle that emitted the fragrance of fruit gave out just the slightest bit of warmth.

April opened my door, seemingly hiding something in her hands.

"There we go. Ice cream, laptop for movies, and fuzzy socks! I mean, who doesn't like fuzzy socks?" She smiled, knowing that it had been a tough day and that this small gesture would mean a lot to you.

"It's not much, and it definitely won't solve the whole 'customer's sh1tty attitude,' but I thought you could use a pick me up," April sat the items down next to you, quickly running to your dresser to pick out a pair of matching green pajamas for both you and her. You slipped the pajamas (that she had just tossed) on without hesitation. Since April had stayed over so often, she just left some of her own clothing at your apartment.

You were overjoyed. The tiny act of kindness offered you a break that you didn't realize you so desperately needed. Having finally been able to rest and forget the troubles of the day, you grinned happily. With April at your side, you cuddled up next to her, absorbing the warmth of her body and the cozy feel of the fuzzy socks she had given you. It was a romantic moment; one that had been long overdue.

You nestled into the cozy couch, feeling the softness of the cushions envelop you. April turned on her computer. She selected one of your favorite films after scrolling through a few others and pressing play. You both snuggled closer, and the warmth of April's body melted away your worries.

As the movie played, you both laughed and discussed the plot, savoring the moment of being together. The movie was a great distraction! The two of you enjoyed it, but it was the small moments of connection that really mattered.

In the darkness of your room, your girlfriend hugged you tight. She occasionally whispered and mumbled loving words into your ears, kissing you everywhere on your head what seemed like all at once. Her affection was indescribable, as was the love she radiated. April slowly ran her fingers through your hair. The feeling of her hands drifting through your locks sent shivers down your spine; the kind that felt amazing!

You rested your head on April's shoulder and closed your eyes. Thoughts of the day drifted away in your mind as you fell asleep, a content smile on your face.

Oh, how you loved her.
