As we hit the one-ninth mark (eighteen games) of the season, let's see how our rookie phenom has adjusted to the Major Leagues:

Volpe has started every game, splitting time between the back end of the lineup and the leadoff spot. He is a good leadoff hitter right now, getting on base regularly - 11 hits and 11 walks in 65 plate appearances. Then he is a pest to opposing pitchers. He runs successfully - 8 stolen bases (3 behind the league lead) without being caught once; the threat of him taking off, his dancing near the base, has thrown a number of pitchers off of their game.

His numbers aren't that great - certainly not  what the Yankees expect to eventually get. He has one each of home runs, doubles and triples. A batting average of .204 could use improvement. His presence, however, has been useful to the team, especially as they deal with some injuries (Stanton and Donaldson). They haven't yet needed Volpe to show that star power, having a record of 11-7 and not yet losing a series.
