"Ha ha ha. Very funny. But seriously, what's the real dare??" I asked.
Lisa giggled and said, "That is the real dare, Jess!"
Those six words could change my life. "Y-You mean, I have to ask out Jackson Howell? And date him? Why?" I complained.
Lisa's smile faded. "You don't want to do it?" I nodded and she smirked. "Well looks like somebody's scared to ask out a popular boy! Huh?" She teased.
"Please Lisa, I really don't. I can't." She just snorted and said, "Well sorry, Jessica, rules are rules." Then she stood up.
"Oh and, I don't want to be friends with someone who's never asked someone out and is afraid to. You have until tomorrow night. Or we're done." And with that, she smirked and walked away, leaving me sitting at the lunch table all my myself.
***************************
Lisa is the most popular girl in the school and the prettiest too. I, on the other hand, is not popular, nor pretty. Well, according to the guys.
I sighed and put my head down on the lunch table, and pushed away my food, my appetite gone.
Just a short little nap won't hurt...
"Little misfit girls don't hang out by my locker, do you understand?" Ryan's deep voice boomed in my ear, making me wince from the loudness, my hearing very sensitive.
Scared, I just bit my lip and nodded, preparing for what was gonna come next.
Everybody says, when he punches all his victims in the face, they don't go to school for a week.
My vision was fuzzy and I could barely make out Ryan drawing back his arm, ready to punch.
Then a girl's voice butts in. I start to drift off. Though I still hear her saying my name, over and over, "Jess. Jess?"Huh? I jolted awake. Was i sleeping? I never sleep! I'm an all A's student! Oh wait, yeah, it was just this once.
"Yes Mr. Fielder......." I mumbled.
"Jess! Jess!!" Finally i woke up for real, my other friend, Chase standing over me.
"Gaaah! Chase?!" I picked my head up. "What are you doing here?"
He smiles his sweet, shy smile and said, "I need to talk to you." He pauses and takes a breath. "I saw Lisa walking away from your lunch table and she looked furious. I tried to talk to her but she just yelled at me. And you know Lisa, she never yells. I knew something was up so I came to check on you but you were sleeping."
Chase blushed and I smirked. "How long exactly have you been here, Chase?"
He smiled, the smile that I simply adore, and says, "I don't know, how long have you been sleeping?"
At first I was shocked but i gathered my conscience and then checked my watch.
12:19!!
I smiled and said, "Well, long enough to almost be late to class!" And I sprang up, leaving a stunned Chase behind.
I quickly dashed into Mr. Fielder's class and slumped in my seat, ready for the day to be over. Then I felt a tapping on my shoulder.
I turned around and saw a smirking Jackson Howell staring at me. I gulped. "Y-Yes?" I stammered.
He smiled slyly and whispered, "Lisa told me what happened. I'll be waiting." And with that he straightened his back and looked at the teacher, who had just entered the room.
Could this day get any worse???
