Even though everybody in this neighborhood was rather smiley in a way, y/n was not, and it's not because she was emotionless, it's rather that she was more of insecure about it, she'd assume that everyone would judge her for her smile, to the point where she never smiled, so maybe, she actually doesn't even know how to anymore.
Y/n had moved into the neighborhood recently, maybe 2 months ago, she had quickly made friends, and she thought that maybe she would warm up to everyone and begin to smile, but no, not yet at least, she didn't even laugh, and when she felt like she couldn't control the tugging corners of her mouth she'd claw at her hands and arms, to force a pain to distract herself from the fun moment, she never realized it wasn't healthy.

You, the y/n we had been talking about before, was walking down the neighborhoods road, which was actually just a dirt path to walk on, you were running out of food, so you decided to go shopping to fill up your fridge.

While walking you had spotted Barnaby, the beagle, that you had never really hung out with, but had talked to, he was funny, and all though you enjoyed his humor, you tried to avoid him, because like you had said before, he was funny, and jokes would always make you crack a smile, which was something you were really trying not to do.

"Oh, heya y/n!" You heard the blue dot speak as you walked by, you turned and nervously sweat, waving a little shyly, he walked up to you, which made you look anyway expect for him, you stiffen up, tensing your shoulders, beads of sweat on your face.

"Huh? What's wrong y/n? having a ruff day?" He said, saying a pun, the corner of your mouths turns up, but you clench your first, trying to make yourself unnoticeably hurt, so you would not smile.

"No, I'm fine, but thankś for âsking," your voice shook as you forced yourself not to let out a laugh as you wanted to do bad, oh how you were so weak to puns, even though you've tried all your life never to smile, you'd think after a while you'd get better at pretending, but you actually got worse, maybe it's just because you were bottling up your emotions, emotions of laughter and fun, which was ironic because people usually want to bottle up sad emotions, I guess not you though.

"Oh paw-lease, I know something is on your mind! Why not spill? Howl you doing?" he chuckles, you turn your head away from him as your back hunches over in the worst attempt to hide, you haven't laughed in so long it's like your body was trying to make you, it'd harder than ever today, you don't know why, but you hate it.

You pinch your skin, it hurt, and it distracted you, you turned back to dead old Barnaby, and tilt your head to the side, with a expression rather odd, you looked calm and stressed at the same time, stressed from holding back of course.

"I am just heading to the store Barnaby, I need to get food because I'm running out, but I'm doing fine," you say, trying to give him a hint you were gonna go.

"Oh okay, but could you give me a round of a-paws for my paws-itively hilarious puns!" He snorts, shaking his shoulders in laughter.

You couldn't take it anymore, your mind had raced with thoughts screaming at you, not to laugh, not to smile, not to give a reaction that would make them judge you.
"Would you quit hounding me!" You shouted, you didn't even realize, until barnaby had went on cackling, it was so funny to him, you'd wish you could laugh as much as him, feeling your shoulders shake and shake, trying to giggle.
oh but no.
you can't, barnaby is right there, and Wally is actually here too, he was talking with barnaby before he had greeted you, you could see Wally watching intensely, he'd seem like one to judge, you can't smile.
