It's Been A While

Seven years had passed, Sora and Kiri were nearing their tenth birthday and while Rain never made a big deal over their birthday, ten was an important mile stone, especially on the Nameless Street. When Rain was growing up, the majority of baby's born on the street never made it past the age of six and if they did make it to six, they rarely lived to see their tenth year.

Kids that found their way onto the street from elsewhere tended to fair much better. When Rain was young she never understood why this was, but as she got older and learned more and more about her home, she figured it out. Luckily not many children were being born on the Street as of late and even still, the number of deaths across the board was decreasing.

While the Nameless Street still adopted in unwanted children almost all the time, Sora and Kiri were the last to be born on the Street in a long while. The two had grown into remarkable young children despite their surroundings, but so did Rain and her brother so she was never worried they wouldn't.

Sora was almost the spitting image of her, if she had been a boy. Only his eyes were Smoky's. Rain had noticed them right away from the first time she held him. Right down to the same shape and shade, Smoky's eyes had stared back at her.

Kiri on the other hand was more physically like her late father. All except her nose, which Rain noticed looked wider and more and more like her brother P's and her fathers, as she grew. Her eyes were a lighter brown and more akin to that of Rain's mother's. For when she first looked into them she could feel the same warm gaze she remembered her mother had. That or it was just the hormones talking on the day of their birth.

They were both outgoing with both Rain's steadfastness and Smoky's calm demeanor, making for quite the unique juxtaposition in the two. Although still young, the twins stubbornness many times over took their calmer and rational disposition, a trait that Rain hoped would even out as they got older.

"See you later," "Wait where are you going?" Sora stopped in the doorway to the overlook tower which they called their home on the Nameless Street. She remembered the time when she'd have to carrying them down the stairs, which were more like a ladder than anything. But, ever since they could climb freely without the help of others, getting in and out of their home was a breeze.

Sora was even at the point where he was using one of the support stilts to slide down like a fireman. Rain wasn't too concerned when the twins pulled small stunts like this. Growing up on the Nameless Street climbing was in their blood and a fear of heights was non existent. She and P were doing much more daring things when they were their age.

"Takeshi invited me to go on a patrol," Rain gave a slight shake of her head. The Rude Boy's leader was constantly trying to instill a sense of responsibility in Sora, while Rain wished he'd just let him be a kid more.

"You know the rules right?..Despite what Takeshi says" "Yes," Sora sounded annoyed as he turned to leave, "And don't climb too high." "I know," Sora responded back to his mother plainly without even turning around as he ran off. "I'll watch 'em," Yu jumped down from the roof where he and few of the Rude Boys had been perched, "Thanks Yu, I try not to coddle them too much but I can't help it." "You're their mom of course you are, but you're supposed to," Yu ran after Sora quickly catching up to the youngster.
