"Taehyung! Look who's here to meet you!" Namjoon called loudly from the King's chamber's entrance. Jungkook flinched slightly at the intensity of Namjoon's volume since the younger one was standing behind him as a surprise.
"What is it Hyung? I'm very busy here," came the hurried response. Namjoon beckoned for Jungkook to enter, in spite of the less than welcome response. The chamber was split into four main areas; the workroom, the resting room, the bathing room, and an enclosed room Jungkook guessed was for recreational purposes.
King Taehyung was currently in the workroom, and he was working, of course. Namjoon gestured for Jungkook to stay hidden while the elder drew his brother's attention. "Hyung, don't you know how much work I have?" he whined.
Namjoon felt a pang of guilt, one he had learnt to ignore, and instead gave a bright smile. "Nothing doing. If it's that urgent, I'll delegate it to someone else. Leave it for now."
That seemed to catch Taehyung's interest and he left his work, turning around to look at Namjoon expectantly. He gave a small smile and stepped aside to reveal Jungkook standing behind him. Jungkook saw the King's eyes widen and knew that he probably wasn't expecting this. So, to lighten the mood, he gave one of his famous bunny smiles and a tiny wave.
He thought he saw Taehyung inhale sharply before speaking. "What is this, Hyung?"
"I've brought along a friend for you, Taehungie. He's meant to play with you every day, so you spend some time with him and relax." Namjoon said, giving Jungkook a light push before turning and leaving the room. Finally, the King seemed to realise that Jungkook was still standing while he himself was sitting seated, so he gestured for him to sit down on a chair.
Jungkook was starting to have doubts about this whole arrangement now. Namjoon had said that it would be fun, that the King was slightly, slightly arrogant but not mean. What he'd failed to mention was that this strange king was boring.
So, to get things going, before he could regret it, he decided to voice his thoughts. "You're boring," he told the king matter-of-factly. Taehyung look that him in complete shock and Jungkook wondered if he'd crossed a line.
Then Taehyung laughed softly. "Is that really what you think of me?" he asked him. Jungkook nodded.
"I thought you would have at least asked my name by now. Maybe it would have progressed to who I am, and what I do. But you're just sitting there as if you can't process the fact that I'm here."
This time Taehyung laughed for real, his boxy smile peeking out and his eyes shining with mirth. "Wow. That is the most honest and harshest opinion I've ever heard about myself."
Jungkook frowned. "Really? That was the harshest opinion? Then you must be really sheltered and flattered. I've heard much worse, both about me and other people, coming from people's mouths." That that Taehyung sighed slightly.
"That's one of the drawbacks that come with being the King, I'm afraid."
"Drawback? Isn't it awesome to not have to hear a single negative about yourself?"
Taehyung simple looked at him and Jungkook felt stupid. "Of course it isn't," he answered his own question. "In a world that's so fake already, it's disheartening to hear people praise you all the time. It must give quite the self-esteem issues."
Taehyung smiled. "You seem quite intelligent. May I know your name?" Jungkook gave his best bunny smile before answering.
"My name is Jungkook. Pleased to meet you."
