You know, it had taken a lot of work to get into Garreg Mach. First, Annette had to get enrolled in the Fhirdiad School of Sorcery, which took a lot of begging and letters and such. She could only imagine how hard it would be if she were not part of house Dominic. After that, she made sure she was the best of the best and the top of her class, working day and night, absorbing all the knowledge she could, and practicing whenever studying wasn't helping. She probably slept more nights in the library than in her room. She was tired all the time, and probably wouldn't have been awake during tests or studying time if it weren't for a certain friend of hers.
All Annette's efforts did bear fruit, as she did graduate top of her class, with several recommendations from her professors allowing her access to Garreg Mach and the Officers Academy. Outside of just the prestige and influence that came from graduating from Garreg Mach, Annette had another reason to come. A very personal one.
4 years ago, just after the Tragedy of Duscur, her father had left. She and her mother didn't know why, and there was no word of this. She refused to believe he left out of something like a loss of love or a dedication to his calling, because even though his work had him very occupied, he always made time for his family, and he always so happy when he was home. So Annette, ever the stubborn and determined girl, had made it her life's mission to bring him home, and she was sure that Garreg Mach was the place her father went. Beyond just being an academy, Garreg Mach also served as the Church of Serios's base of operations, like the Vatican. Her father had always been a pious man, so Annette thought if he would disappear anywhere, it would have to be here.
Between the constant hard work to get into 2 very prestigious schools, the tension and relief she kept feeling, and the worrying about her father, Annette had been having a pretty crappy latter part of her life. There was one definite good that came out of it all.
"Mercie!" Annette called out when she recognized her best friends face.
"Annie!" Her friend called out, that friend's full name being Mercedes von Martriz. They had become friends after Annette had decided to help her on a couple assignments just out of the kindness in her heart. They found out they liked each others company and were inseparable afterwards, continuing to help each other through graduation. They were both elated upon hearing that they were accepted into Garreg Mach, and couldn't wait to see each other after Rheas speech.
"I still can't believe we got in! It feels so unreal, I keep pinching myself but nothing happens. I guess all that work in Fhirdiad paid off."
"I feel the same way, Annie. But, we're here nonetheless. But just because we got in is no reason to stop trying. We're gonna have to keep at it!"
"You know me well enough to know I would never slack off. We're already here, might as well do our best."
Their conversation went on like this for a few more minutes, sipping tea and eating treats that Mercedes had baked prior to arriving at Garreg Mach as a surprise. It was stopped when a deep, gentle voice called out to them.
"Annette, Mercedes, I'm glad to have found you. If it is not an inconvenience, please finish up quickly and come to the Blue Lions classroom. I would like us all to be present and to get to know each other."
The voice was Dimitri, the leader of the Blue Lions this year. for those of you who have not played or watched videos of Three Houses, there are three classrooms at Garreg Mach, each for a different state in Fodlan. Black Eagles for the Germans I mean citizens of the Empire, Golden Deer for citizens of the Alliance, and Blue Lions is for Kingdom citizens. The classes are also called Houses for some reason, and any good house needs a leader, so the school picked out which student they fought would be best suited(Which student was the most powerful noble)and they got to be leader of the house for the year.
ANYWAYS, Annette and Mercedes promptly got up, packed their sweets, and finished their teas on the way to the classroom. Upon reaching it, they found Dimitri to be looking rather sad, or disappointed. He sighed, and a female student with long braided blonde hair said "I've always known that Felix was rude, but he can't even bring himself to be away from the training grounds for 10 minutes... Can he not even muster a little tact!?"
Dimitri stopped looking at the floor and turned around towards the frustrated blonde, having taken care of his expression. "I know you are frustrated Ingrid, but this is just how Felix is. You know that as much as I do. I can understand why he would rather perfect his craft than meet with strangers. Words never were his strong suit."
The blonde girl, named Ingrid, sighed and responded "I know, but he could at least bother coming for 10 minutes, even just to state his name." A soft scowl left her mouth.
A red haired boy laughed and piped up, "Man, I haven't seen Ingrid this angry since that time I hit on-"
Ingrid got even angrier and didn't let him finish his sentence. "On who Sylvain?! WHO!? I swear, every day I keep chasing after you and cleaning up after your skirt chasing! Do you know how angry you make everyone? You don't, because I have to bail you out EVERY time."
The red haired boy, Sylvain, either had no idea how much trouble he was in or was used to it, because he just put his hands behind his head and smirked, replying "Hey, when a guy sees a pretty girl in distress, it's his duty to help her out."
"Sylvain, when you were 8, you came onto my granny! My sweet, sweet granny!"
"I-dh-Pff- t-that was a long time ago, Ingrid!"
This kept going on while Annette, Mercedes, and two grey haired boys Annette didn't recognize just watched in disbelief. Dimitri gave out a soft laugh, he appeared to have known them for the longest time. "Well, they're in no mood to fetch Felix, he's never liked Dedue, and he's begun avoiding me in recent years. Perhaps he'll be more open to a new face. Would any of you three like to try?
"I'll do it!" Annette immediately volunteered. She decided that if Felix was as awful as he sounded, she might as well endure him instead risking poor Mercedes feelings. And plus, she was used to doing things for other people. Annette immediately made off for the training grounds with the same determination she did everything. Nothing was going to get in the way of a successful time for her at Garreg Mach, especially not some boy.
