Starting Out

Chapter 2: A Little Bit of Independence

As Ethan sleeps soundly and comfortably in his warm bed underneath his blankets his mobile phone starts to loudly vibrate next to Ethan as the alarm he set last night goes off.

Ethan growls at his phone as the loud vibrating noise it makes wakes him up from his sleep, he turns over facing his mobile phone and reaches out to pick it up, turning the alarm off. As Ethan lays in his bed still half asleep he looks at his phone screen seeing that it's 7:30am in the morning, after about 5 minutes of just laying there in his bed and not wanting to get out of bed he hears a loud knocking on his bedroom door and his mum yelling "ASHLEY IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP SWEETY, COME GET YOUR BREAKFAST".

Ethan lets out a loud groan from hearing the name he dislikes so early in the morning and having just woken up, he yells back to his mum "HRNNNNGGGGG, I be down in 5 minutes".

Melissa walks away from Ethan's bedroom door as she hears his response and goes back downstairs to the kitchen to where Ethan Dad and little brother and sister are and already started to eat breakfast.

Back in Ethan bedroom, Ethan feeling already annoyed has managed to pull himself out of his bed, he picks up a pair of blue jeans from off his bedroom floor and finds a band shirt from some local metal band and throws both articles of clothing onto his bed as he goes over to where he throw his binder last night picking it up and walks back over to his bed.

Ethan starts to get changed into outfit for the day and heads downstairs to where all his family are already are eating breakfast, he sits down at a empty chair, his mum comes over putting down a plate in front of him that has on it two pieces of toast with butter and strawberry jam on them, Ethan softly says to his mum "thanks Mum", as he picks up a piece of toast and starts to eat.

As Ethan finishes eating he gets up from the kitchen table and walks back to his bedroom, while in his bedroom he grabs his school backpack sliding it onto his back and he grabs his skateboard before walking back out of his bedroom and walks back towards the kitchen.

Ethan walks into the kitchen saying goodbye to everyone and kissing his mum on the cheek as he says goodbye to her and to his dad.

With his backpack on his back and his skateboard in hand, Ethan walks towards the front door and opens it, walking outside and closing the front door behind him.

  It's a bright sunny day with only a few clouds in the sky as Ethan puts his headphones on and starts to play his music, he then throws his skateboard onto the ground and jumps onto it as he starts to skate to school trying to not be late to tutorial today since he knows if he late again he might get given after school detention which he didn't want to have to do today so he made sure to go as fast as he can to ensure he wouldn't be late. As Ethan skates along the footpath every now and then he drops his foot down onto the ground to push him along he thinks how this might be the last time he will have to skate to school or rely on his parents or public transport to get himself around.

Ethan rushes to school and manages to arrive 10 minutes before class is meant to start so he decides to go the school cafe to grab a coffee before heading to class, as Ethan walks through the school gates he looks around at all the other students already in there friend groups as his music plays ignoring the loud noises they make as they talk amongst one another, as he gets to the school cafe he orders his coffee feeling lucky that there was no one else inline waiting.

While Ethan waits for his order he takes out his mobile phone and pauses his music so that he is able to hear his name being called out when it's ready, while waiting Ethan messages his friend Emma asking if she was still able to come with him that day after school, about a minute later Emma responds that she still can and jokes with him by asking if he going to be on time to school today or is he going to get after school detention again for being late, Ethan gives a small laugh as he responds back that he is already at school and that he just in the cafe getting a coffee and that he will see her at recess.
