I stood in front of the doors that I would walk though, starting my last year in high school. I was goin to miss this place and all of the memories I've had here over the years. My first kiss, Jennifer and Cody's arguments over the dumbest things, pulling pranks on Bayley for her birthday, all of it. This was the place I- RIIIIIING! I was broken out of my thoughts by the bell ringing loudly throughout the hallways.I barged through the doors and made my way to the counter in the office to pick up my schedule. The receptionist, Mrs. Johnson, was on the phone but recognized me and handed me a piece of paper. I opened it up and headed to the first class on the list, which was history.
I pulled the door open and sat beside Cody, one of my friends, in one of the back seats.
"Late again, Miss Amanda?" he whispered to me.
"Shut up," I whispered back. All of my friends know I have a tendency to be late all the time, so much that when we are planning to hang out at a certain place they tell me the time but add 30 minutes to it so I end up getting there 15 minutes early.
"Where's the teacher?" I whispered.
"You got lucky. She came in, put her stuff down, then said she had to go to the bathroom." Cody replied.
"Ha! I'm early this time!"
"By a hair."
The door to the classroom opened and an old lady, maybe 70, walked in and took a seat at the desk.
"Hello, class. My name is Mrs. King. I am your new history teacher. Now today is your first day as seniors so I'm just going around the room and ask you what you wish to accomplish this year. Start here." she pointed to the left side of the front row.
"Understand math." The class began to laugh a little.
"Screw that, George! To understand girls!" That sent a commotion among all the girls and that poor boy.
"Alright settle down, settle down! Next." Mrs. King said. The list went on until it came to Cody.
"To win an argument with Vanders." he said and I had to hold back a laugh.
"To not be late one day." I said and this time Cody laughed.
"Mr. Jones, could you keep it down please?" Mrs. King said and Cody just nodded.
"Yeah, Mr. Jones keep it down!" I whispered and he punched my arm playfully.
The class went on and then the bell rang and we headed towards the cafeteria for break. Cody sat down while I stood in line to get something for breakfast. As I was, I looked around for my best friend, Taylar.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see her,"Hey, Amanda!" she said, giving me a hug.
"Hey, Bayley," I replied as I hugged her back.
"Holy smoke! Don't look to the right but look right!" Taylar said and I turned to see Jake Meyers.
I looked back to Taylar,"It's Jake Meyers, so?"
" 'So?' 'So?!' He looks hot!" Taylar replied.
"Can we change the subject?" I asked.
"Fine! So what's your first class?"
"History. Oh the joy." I said sarcastically.
"Ha! Better than me! Chemistry, first thing in the morning!"
"Sounds pretty bad."
"It is. Today, she already gave us a worksheet, homework from the book, and a whole chapter to read!"
"We did nothing in history, just went around saying what we wanted to accomplish this year." I said as we sat down at our table. Emily was sitting in front of Logan, quietly while he talked to her. I sat in front of Taylar, and Jennifer was beside me, arguing with Cody as usual. When we sat down, Cody and Jennifer started yelling things at us.
"Calm down! No violence just hugs! Now apologize!" Emily said, turning to Cody and Jennifer. That's Emily, the peacemaker.
"See? This is why we keep you around, Emily. To keep those two from starting World War III," Taylarsaid, pointing her fork between Cody and Jennifer.
"Ya know, Cody, why did you say in history class that you wanted to win an argument with Jennifer? It's never going to happen. We all know that." I said and everyone else nodded while Emily sat quietly, reading a book she pulled out of her purse.
"Well not this year! I'm going to finally beat you in an argument!" Cody glared at Jennifer and she glared back.
"Bring it on, Jones!" Jennifer said.
Jennifer and Cody never called each other by their first names. I guess they thought that's how you talk to someone you think isn't human.
We all went back to eating and it was quiet before Emily said,"Do you think that the reason you two argue over things all the time is because you secretly like each other?"
"I knew it! She's a telepath!" Cody said and we all looked at him with our eyebrows raised while Jennifer backed away from him. "Relax, it's a joke." he said, raising his hands.
The bell rang and we broke off and headed to our next class. 'This is going to be a long day.' I thought.
