The sunlight sparked through the curtains of the Rajput manor as Pooja, Laila along with Harshh, sat in the boy's bedroom. The girls' laughter roared in the empty halls. Harshh whined when Pooja hit him with a Pillow.
"OKAY- Will you stop hitting me, didi?" Pooja threw the pillow at him. A small smile tugged at her lips, despite her trying to seem annoyed at the boy.
"Don't flirt with her. She's mine." Her tone was defensive as she snaked her arm around Laila's waist and pulled her best friend close.
"All yours, love," Laila confirmed though she could be seen winking at the boy, which Pooja missed. The 13-year-olds turned their heads at the sound of aggressive footsteps. The two knew it would either be their mum or grandfather. Because only two to had such anger in their actions, the father and the grandmother, on the other hand, were calm at all times.
Pooja broke the hug and opened the door to the room when the footsteps stopped. There stood a woman with anger clear on her ivory face. Her hairs were dark brown, shoulder length and had wavy curls to it. If you looked closely, you can see her natural hair colour through the roots.
Her brown eyes were piercing at the girl as she rolled her tongue inside her cheek and then clenched her 'V-shaped jawline. Her heart-shaped lips almost gave into the frown and the almond eyes squinted at the girl as though she would kill her by the gaze. Pooja's hazel eyes dropped to the ground and her body was slightly shaking from fear.
"I'm-I'm gonna go-" Laila informed and got up from the bed and grabbed her bag. She walked past the mother and daughter whilst adjusting her hijab and saying her goodbyes to the two siblings. Harshh waved back but Pooja stood still with fear in her eyes.
Laila disappeared and the boy stood up from his bed, his ivory skin much like his mother's shinned in the sun. He resembled his mother in many ways, except that he had his father's hazel eyes.
"Harshh, lock your door and don't come out." Aruna instructed the boy and roughly grabbed Pooja's hand, dragging her into her room as she begged her mum to let her be and that she is sorry.
Tears fell from the girl's eyes as she tried to hold onto something but Aruna was way more powerful. The older woman threw Pooja inside her room and locked her in. Pooja ran towards the door immediately and tried to unlock it.
"Mum- please! I promise she's not like others. She's different, she's good!" Tears fall on her honey-coloured skin as she banged on the door loudly.
"Shut up!" Her mother said loud enough for the girl to flinch on the other side. "Why must you disappoint me so much? I thought you'd be a good daughter. You are nothing like me! Not your skin, your personality, your face or your habits. I had expected so much from you."
The silence was so loud, her heart broke from those words and Pooja wanted nothing more than to, for once hear some words of appreciation from her.
"You are no daughter for mine. Stay in for a few days, Maybe you will have paler skin and a skinny body. Maybe you will finally look good." And the darkness well upon the girl as she hit her head on the ground, loud enough for it to make her bleed but nobody came. Nobody at all. Instead, hours later she was met by the sound of laughter around her room.
