Chapter 32

Hyunjins pov

"I'm here." I pressed send and waited for a reply anxiously, but there wasn't any.

"What would you like to order?" The waitress came up to me, "Oh, I'm waiting for someone, please just get me water for now." I replied.

"Alright" She smiled and walked away. I looked at the time again and it's already been about 10 minutes. I was the one who asked Mrs. Hwang to meet up for dinner but yet I'm getting nervous.

She is late though. I'm hungry. Just then the door swinged open and she spotted me right after. I waved my hand as she came and sat on the other side of the table.

"Hello, Hyunjin. How are you doing?" She asked with a smile. "I've been okay, you?" I replied.

"A lot better now."

I nodded, maybe it would've been better if I just told her beforehand why we're meeting up. This is kind of awkward.

"Where are you living for now?" I asked because if she moved here to see me, it must've been hard to find a place to live.

"Oh don't worry about that, I live in a apartment." She hesitated a bit before continuing, "What did you want to talk about?"

I adjusted myself, I'm not very sure myself. But I know I need to get this done with. "Just us. I don't know if I'm ready yet, but let's give it a shot. I want to get closer to you, Mrs Hwang." I said, I'm not ready to call her mom yet, but I'll get there. Hopefully.

Her face gets shocked for a second before she pulls it together again, "Oh my.. I would love that. That's all I want Hyunjin. To be there for you as a mother, even if I'm.. Super late." She gives me a small smile.

"I also want you to know that we never wanted to give up on you. You've always meant so much to your father, but he can't really see you again. It's just things turned out like that. If we kept you with us, it would've been bad. A lot worse. We were struggling with so many things too, and we didn't want you to have that growing up."

I sighed, "So the best plan in your mind was to put me in a orphanage?"

"Back then, yeah. It sounds pathetic but that's how things were. We thought we'd take you back after a few years when we're back on our feet again, but we didn't expect it to be that hard. You were in middle school when I once saw you from far away, I was just here for work but I noticed you doing all fine and thought its best if we stay seperated. But I guess I was wrong. Maybe if I did something back then, things right now would've been different."

A waitress comes by and asks Mrs hwang what drink she wants and then walks off

"Maybe. But this is how things turned out, let's accept it and try again" I answered, giving her a soft smile

Tears start to swell in her eyes, "sorry" she grabs a tissue and wipes her eyes, "I just thought I would never get to see my.. son or even talk to him. I know I didn't know you well as a child or teenager, but you've grown into a good young man"

"Here's your drink ma'am" the waitress puts down her water and walks off

I don't know why I feel so comfortable with her right now, is this how it feels to have a mom? And wanting to comfort her no matter what? I reach my hand across the table and lay my hand on top of hers

"But there's some things I should tell you, you should know now."

She puts her tissue down and listens

"You know that little girl you met a while ago? Dauen?"

A smile blooms on her lips, "yes! Daeun! Such a precious little girl"

"Well I've taken her over to my house once a week ever sense I left the orphanage, she's a little sister to me. I want to adopt her and take custody of her, but I've been struggling to get it fully done lately"

She nods, "if you want, I will gladly help. I know you two are close, and I also know you would be a good parent to her"

"I would love it if you help me.. Mrs Hwang"

She smiles, "I would love to"

She breaks her eye contact and we go silent for a couple minutes. I can tell she has so many questions to ask me, I don't know if I'm ready for them, but I want her to ask and let her get to know me

She brightens as she finally speaks her mind, "well.. do you have a girlfriend? Or no?"

Y/n instantly popped in my head, I start to think of all our memories, her addicting smile, her laugh, everything.

Mrs Hwangs eyes widen, "so there is!"

I quickly get out of my thoughts, "well, yeah, I do have a girlfriend" I try to keep my cool but a smile creeps on my lips as the events of last night show up in my mind.

"I don't expect you to introduce me to her yet, but just make sure to take care of her. She's someone's little girl in their eyes"

I chuckle, "of course"

"What job do you do?"

Okay maybe not every question I want to answer

I rub my neck awkwardly, "I worked around 4 jobs at a time when I left the orphanage, I saved up my money, so now I'm using that money trying to take custody of Dauen. For now I work uh.. As a model" I smile awkwardly, feeling the tip of of ears turning red

She nods, "it must have been so hard, I'm sorry Hyunjin. Putting you through all of that and not having someone to lean on. I bet you suit being a model though, look at you!"

"Well it made me who I am, so I'm okay with it. And thank you."

Mrs Hwang opened her mouth to say something but her phone starts to buzz, "oh, give me a moment" she answers the phone and walks outside

I grab the napkin beside me and start to fiddle with it, now that I think about it, my job is fucked up, but then again I wouldn't have met y/n, so it's worth it. I do need to get a new job.. soon.

Mrs hwang comes to my side and sighs, "I'm sorry Hyunjin, I just got a call from my new job asking me to get to work early"

I smile, "I get it, go ahead. We can talk more later"

"Thanks Hyunjin" she pauses for a moment, "take care" she adds rubbing my shoulder, then walks off after paying the bill.

I'm starting a whole new path, it won't be easy, but I know it will be worth it.

Its still pretty early, so I decided to call y/n as I got up to leave the place.

"Hey" She said as she picked up, I smiled. I love her voice so much. And her. "Hi. Are you free?" I asked.

"I'm about to leave for work. How did it go?"

"It went okay. Did you have breakfast? We can grab some together"

"Sure."

"Okay, I'll see you at your regular cafe. Wait for me. I'm almost there." I replied, "Alright." She said and hung up.

It took me about 10 minutes to reach, and it was perfect timing because I saw y/n get in right then.

"Boo" I spoke behind her, not quite enthusiastic but yeah. She didn't flinch as she turned back and gave me a smile, I smiled back and pulled a hug.

"Miss me?" I asked as she broke the hug. "We met this morning. But yeah, I kinda did. Should we get in? I dont wanna be late."

I nodded as we went in and ordered up. I was gonna say something when her phone ringed.

"Oh its Jennie, hold on." She said picking up the call.

"Hey Jennie" She said as they went on with their conversation, she gave me a shocked face in the middle of their call. I asked her what it is but she ignored me, continuing her talk with her beloved best friend.

After she hung up a few seconds later, she looked at me with a satisfied smile. "Sooo. I might have good news."
