Hi, my name is Drew Vanderpohl and I'm 14. I'm not the best at talking to girls. I have this thing that I go to every summer it's called youth explosion. It takes place at earlham college. Last summer I went and there was this girl named Maddie. Maddie Paige and she was beautiful. She tried to get my attention by taking me to the pool on campus and swimming with me. I couldn't help myself so I asked for her number. She gave me her number. Even though she was only two dorms away from mine we texted each other all night. I had fallen in love.I tried and tried to tell maddie how I felt. I always fell short because I would get so nervous around her. Finally, three weeks after youth explosion I texted her and said, "I love you Maddie," and she replied "I love you too I wanna see you soon and can I be your girlfriend." obviously I liked her so much I said yes. We met up at the Florence mall in Kentucky. The date went great and at the end she leaned over and gave me a good nights kiss. I kissed her back and she told me about how she fell in love with me. she said "at the pool when you said that my eyes look like stars that shine brighter then the sky I knew you where the one." I didn't know what to say. I was speechless. She told me how she loved me so much. I told her that this relationship will last forever and she said "and always." We both left and texted and called each other when we got home. Our phone calls with each other where so sweet and we would always end our conversations with me saying "forever" and her saying "and always." Me and Maddie where the cutest couple. I tried to see her very often. Like every single week. Then in August my mom wanted to meet her so I asked Maddie's mom if she could come to my house and meet my family. She said "can we do it this winter? Maybe December around your birthday?" I said "sure, let's do it." The next week me and Maddie met up at a restaurant called crossroads. I asked her to walk with me. We where walking down the road when her mom pulled up and said "get in the car, now!!!!" She jumped in and left. I was so sad that night because she didn't call or text me. I cried all night I even cried myself to sleep. I took my phone out around 9:00 in the morning and called her she picked up the phone and I could hear her crying. I said "baby, what's the matter?" She said "my dad overdosed and died," I told her to meet me at the Easton mall and she said ok. I went to the Easton mall and waited for four hours she never showed up. I called her that night and asked why she didn't show. She said "gimme some time drew," I said "ok, I'll wait until December." Two months later in October she called me and said "babe, I miss you let's get back together" I said ok. We met up three different times before December rolled around. I called her that night and asked "baby, are you on your way?" She said "yeah, I'll be there in five minutes." I stood outside waiting on her. I saw her car coming down the road. A semi-tractor-trailer truck was going pretty fast behind them. When they stopped to turn into my driveway the semi ran into the back of there car and sent them flying into the air. I ran over to the car and pulled Maddie and her mom out of the burning car. Maddie was bleeding a lot but her mom was fine. Maddie was in my arms still barely alive. I said "stay with me baby" she said "I'm sorry babe but I can't. Find somebody better then me someday but always remember me." I started crying and we kissed and she died in my arms. I didn't want to let go. I thought I'd never find someone better until a three months later when a girl named Jessica miller came along. I have been diagnosed with severe depression but Jessica was my medicine. She died two months after me and her got together
She died of cancer.
