House of the Dragon
When I made this "fandom specific" section, I planned to do talk about specific plots for specific fandoms, such as the chapter about Hargreeves Siblings fics. So far that has not really worked. Either the idea was so minor as "*insert canon character* x OC fics" which makes very underwhelming and unhelpful chapter, or were just giving advice for those fandoms entirely which is exceptionally broad and unhelpful in that way.
This probably falls in to the second option, but in this case it's a lot easier to do than say, Stranger Things, or even The Umbrella Academy. HOTD's fanfiction collection here on Wattpad is very limited, with a lot of fics being similar to each other and there being two main love interest. So there are really only a few issues I feel need addressed, even if they're pretty universal ones.
Something to keep in mind is I'm going to talk mostly about House of that Dragons. Not the entirety of A Song of Ice and Fire media. This is because I've never read fics for the books and I've never watched the GOT series (I tried, but I don't have HBO so I'd have to pay for the series, and honestly between the complaints I've heard from fans and the fact I didn't even enjoy the first episode I tried, it's not worth the 100$ I'd have to pay for the entire show.) Some of the notes I give can be applied to the rest of the series, since they exist in the same world as each other and I do have an understanding of the lore, but keep that in mind.
And now, a very important point:
TRIGGER WARING: This chapter will discuss incest, abuse, pedophilia, and SA, and the toxic way these exist in fanfiction.
I know I've discussed incest in my Hargreeves Siblings chapter, but this is a very different situation. ASOIAF, as you probably know, involves these things as actual plot point — especially in the Targaryens HOTD focuses on — and this fact has led to fanfictions using these dark topics very blithely and without care. I try to address everything as gently as possible and in the least triggering way, but it is hard to discuss these fics without it, especially when one of the issues is the way they utilize them.
