The Eighth Crow
"Wait a second aren't there six crows? It's literally called Six of Crows." Uhhhh remember Kuwei??
I kid, I know that Kuwei technically isn't a crow because he never officially joined the group. I just felt he deserved some acknowledgment, because he is forgotten so often. Legitimately, people are more likely to include Jordie in their fan content than Kuwei, which in my opinion is so dumb. Like no offense to Jordie, but the man is literally just a plot device.
Back the point: when it comes to the grishaverse, it's very obvious people prefer the Crows. and in 99% of the Crow fics (either SOC or their plot line in the show) the OC is part of the name sake group.
And by 99% I mean literally all the ones I've read, but I cannot confirm or deny that there isn't one out there that breaks the mold. I mean the easiest plot is for them to start off as a Crow, and it's pretty much near impossible to keep them from becoming one, but who knows. Maybe someone does it.
I love this! Of course I do. But also I think you guys aren't utilizing it to its full potential because, as typical for fan fiction, a lot of fics are just writing the same thing.
Though I will say, if I sound like I'm describing your fic, please don't take this as a personal insult. All advice is my personal opinion, with some bases in what I know people seem interested in. Don't think "oh, they're saying I shouldn't do this, that means my story is worthless." No is isn't! You still worked on it.
But with that disclaimer out of that, let's get into it.
The Sparrows and the Snakes
I'm sure you've all see the stories. The OC either a "sparrow among crows" or "the Viper."
And listen, I'm not against animal metaphors. I like them, and in fact it's accurate to the story as many of the crows have animals connections beyond just "crows" (Nina is called "Little Red Bird", Inej is compared to lynxs and spiders, and Matthias is connected to wolves as a Drüskelle.) But come on guys. Those aren't the only two animals that exist in the world.
Especially because whenever people use these animals, it's pretty much a given how the story is going to go. When they call their character the "sparrow" it's the emphasis how cute and innocent the OC is. How they're not as tough as the others, that's why they're a sparrow and not a crow.
By the way, house sparrows specifically are an invasive species and aggressive as fuck. Just saying. Look at it. This is the face of evil, boys.
