Aemond stood before his mother, Alicent Hightower, his heart racing with fear and anticipation. He knew what he had to do, but the thought of it made his stomach churn.
"Aemond, what brings you here?" Alicent asked, her voice cool and controlled.
"Mother, I have something to confess," Aemond said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"What is it?" Alicent asked, her eyes narrowing in suspicion.
"I...I killed Lucerys Velaryon," Aemond said, his voice shaking.
There was a moment of stunned silence as Alicent and her father, Otto Hightower, exchanged a look of shock and anger.
"What do you mean you killed Lucerys?" Alicent asked, her voice rising in anger.
"He died during the harmless chase at Storm's End," Aemond said, his voice growing stronger. "I didn't mean for it to happen, but it did. And I had to own up to it."
Alicent's face turned red with anger. "You killed your own nephew? How could you be so careless?" she demanded.
Aemond cleared his throat, "Mother, I meant to only blind Lucerys on one eye, I did not intend to kill him."
Alicent's eyes narrowed, "Blinding a Velaryon is not any better, Aemond. Your actions have consequences. Daemon and Rhaenyra will be furious, and they will never bend the knee even more. What were you thinking?"
"I wasn't thinking, mother. I was angry and wanted to teach him a lesson," Aemond replied, his voice barely above a whisper.
Otto interrupted, "Your Grace, we must inform King Aegon of what has happened."
Aegon, who was drunk and slumped in his chair, laughed at the news, "Ha! The bastard deserved it. He's a stain on our family's name."
Alicent shot Aegon a withering look, "That is enough, Aegon. This is a serious matter. We must prepare for the consequences of Aemond's actions."
Aemond felt a surge of pride despite his fear. He had shown his strength and loyalty to his family. But as the gravity of the situation set in, his pride turned to apprehension. The rift between House Targaryen and House Hightower had widened, and he had only made it worse.
