AND there he was, letting everything turn into a blur. The sounds of laughter, conversations, and music ring in his ear. The basketball league ended hours ago, and Yongsamgul University won after seven years of loss since 1997.
"That was an amazing shot, Jungkook!" Seokjin from the business department congratulated the power forward who saved the college from another humiliation.
They're a small but growing institute at Busan, slowly trying to make a name for themselves. With Jungkook's winning three-point shot, they're set to participate next tournament. Hence, this party is all for the newest MVP, for him. Not a second later, Hoseok wraps his arm around Jungkook's shoulder, offering him another color red cup that's foaming. Beer, again? He had so many of these red cups in the last three hours. Who was even sneaking in liquor when it's prohibited?
"To Jungkook Jeon, our number sixteen!" Namjoon, the captain, cheers out loud. It gathers more attention from the students partying at the open field next to the gymnasium.
His teammates surround him, chanting his name with their hands and cups in the air. The breeze feels like a splash of cold water on Jungkook's reddening face. Perhaps, the booze is making him drunk? Not too much, maybe a tad bit tipsy. He better controls his intake, or he'll be found somewhere he'll regret and forget. The music gets even louder, and the partying has become rowdier like a flash mob is about to begin. The staff will surely be here if they continue. His vision turns hazy as his batchmates jump and dance all together. No one seems to be stopping soon. The night is still young and fun despite midnight approaching.
"Uh," Jungkook didn't hop, but his vision swirled. Cupping his head, he shortly excuses himself from the group that was too busy to notice he's about to disappear. Walking in the tightly-closed students' bodies, rocking to the music and chants, he catches sight of someone else.
The students are present and in circles at the center of the field while there's a woman on the edge of the place shooting the scene. She has a VHS covering three-fourths of her face, but he can tell she's smiling. Hell, she's the only one not joining in the amusement. She doesn't seem to be interested in the celebration or if she's even visible at all. She comes and goes too quickly like a ghost making a rare appearance. Before she makes her leave, the woman turns her head in his direction. Jungkook sees one of the prettiest faces he laid sight on. A calm and positive expression was unmistakable on her face, looking softly at him ⏤ possibly, at the basketball team. He doesn't know.
All Jungkook knows is that she has warmth in her eyes, like she's seeing the world more brightly and colorfully.
How can he notice her when she's barely noticeable? What in the world was going on? The woman looks at her wristwatch, now hurrying to flee. The conscious part of his brain fails to function as he follows her somewhere. There's enough distance between them to not spook the girl or make her aware he's behind.
Who is she?
His footsteps slow down, realizing he's led to the garden. Gently and quietly, he peeks inside the gate, checking if she's nearby. The wind is much colder here and it's more peaceful with fewer lamps at random corners that give a relaxing atmosphere. Inhaling the fresh air and scent of the fragrant shrubs and flowers, Jungkook roams his foot to where it takes him. Where is the girl? His mind is asking many repetitive questions about who the mystery student is. As he turns to his left, he finds the female sitting still. Her right legs were on top of the other while on the grassy patch, a hand supporting her weight and the other holding the video device.
Jungkook realizes there are fireflies around the spot the woman is at. The yellow-green lights glow around her face, illumining her entirety. At this close length, he unquestionably sees someone so perfect and beautiful not even Aphrodite can compare.
"Wow." He mumbles with utter astonishment, and his heart skips a beat abnormally. Is it because of the alcohol in his system? Or is it because she looks like a fairy? A goddess? An angel?
And that wasn't the most satisfying view he had seen. The fireflies encircling the female fly to the flower she's videoing closely. From what he recalls and classifies, the moonflower gradually blossoms, making her shoulders perk and lean closer to document and witness it.
The moonflower only blooms at night, reflecting the moon's light, yet it still isn't the most captivating moment. She lowers the recorder to reveal her magnificence. To Jungkook, experiencing and watching the woman's smile grow wide as her eyes explode with stars with the lights around... It was the most impressive of all.
"My pretty moonflowers, may you bloom in harmony." She softly said, which could melt even the coldest ice and put the foxes and wolves to sleep. She sounds so sweet and warm, like a lullaby that brings dreams to life.
If Jungkook had a video cam, he would want to shoot and rewatch how her smile lights up the entire garden; the stars, moon, and sun would be on their knees, ashamed to never be as bright and lovely as her.
Who is she? What has she done to me to feel this way? Unconsciously, Jungkook touches his chest, trying to see if he's still alive and asking himself how he survived.
He catches the most fascinating moment of his summer that he'll never forget.
She's the most beautiful thing to ever be seen and exist.
