CHAPTER SEVENTY SEVEN !
☆
Estella woke up just as the sun began to rise. jack was at the side of her, sleeping. clearly he had fallen asleep whilst keeping watch, but it didn't matter because the roof was so high, nobody would get on it without going into the store, and the streets were not busy. at least they got lucky, anyway. it was a little scary to know that anything could've happened to them whilst they were asleep, but it didn't. jack really should've tried to stay awake for as long as he could, or at least woke estella up when he felt himself dose off. the outcome would've been way worse. estella didn't know if jack had ever been more irresponsible than that, but she didn't mind. he was tired, clearly, and he needed the sleep.
she decided to let him sleep for a little longer, not knowing when he actually did fall asleep. she reached to the side of her, grabbing her water bottle and taking a couple of sips, before moving closer to the edge, just watching the sunrise. as she watched the moon and the sun trade shifts, her mind went back to isabella, when she sat with herself and carl, watching the sunrise after going to the park in the middle of the night. when she spoke about the moon and the sun speaking, and carl told her it was stupid. she thought about the time when glenn told her fun facts about the stars. god, she missed the people they had lost so much.
she was also thinking about beth, and how jack spoke about her yesterday. nobody ever really mentioned beth anymore, estella thought about her almost every day. she liked to think that beth was back with hershel, and lori and isabella were together again. it made her sad to think about beth watching them, hoping that they would keep her memory alive, but they never did.
estella didn't want to lose anybody else with the war going on. it would break her if she lost somebody else she loved. they had lost so much recently, it would just put her at a tipping point if she lost anybody else. she had proved many, many times before that she would die for any member of the group.
"shit, how long was i out?" jack asked, sitting up to rub his eyes with a loud gasp that startled estella.
"i'm not sure." estella replied, coming away from the ledge. "i woke up like thirty minutes ago or something."
"we best get going. we wanna find some insulin today so we can head back home, hopefully by night. we've got the doctors office here, and a children's hospital not far around the corner. they're probably swarmed with walkers, but we can at least try to get in." jack said, estella nodded.
"we'll do the doctor's office first, then the children's hospital. i need to mentally prepare myself for possible child walkers." estella said, standing up.
"if we're lucky, they'll have evacuated most of the patients before the turn. let's go." jack said, standing up after her.
"if we don't get the insulin from these two places, are we going back home?" estella asked, walking down the stairs and to the car.
