Eleanor O'Quinn, few words could be spoken about her. A character stealer, changing destiny, ruining all that is good is what I'd use to describe her! She took away what would have been my greatest character yet! The day she found out about me started it all, the beginning of her junior year.
Eleanor stretched and yawned, gazing at her blaring alarm clock that she unashamedly set the night before. Rubbing the sleep that had formed in her eyes while she rested through the night. Blinking every so often to get accustomed to the pitch black shadows in her room. Curtain's slightly ajar allowing the rise of a new day into her room.
"The start of Junior year, just one more year and then I'm done!" She jumped out of bed rushing to her bathroom, brushing her hair out. Forgetting what she was wearing, the tanned girl toothbrush in mouth quickly heads back to her room grabbing her outfit and quickly getting it on. Struggling with her pants hopping around her room she finally gets it with an exasperated laugh. Triumphant she matches back to the bathroom finishing brushing her teeth, she grabs her things and stuffs them in her bag. To finish off the look she slips on a flannel and a beanie covers her head, getting her tan boots on and she sets off grabbing her book bag.
"Oh shoot! Forgot my earbuds and my phone! Dang, gotta head back." Rushing back inside she grabs the last of things she needs and finally makes it out the door. Unlocking her car and slides her bag in the passenger seat and sits in the driver's side making her way off to Oak hills high school. On the way there she sees her childhood friend seemingly walking to school lost in his own thoughts. Eleanor honks her horn catching his attention, her childhood friend whips his head annoyed only for it to wash into a smile. Eleanor rolls down the window and throws her bag in the back.
"Come on Matt! We're going on an adventure!"
"But Baggins don't do adventures, remember?" Matt had laughed hopping in, the pair laughed as they put on music. Matt and Eleanor jam out until they reach the school. Parking the pair exit the car, Eleanor making sure to grab her bag from the back. Students flood into the school, some exhausted and clearly missing the warmth of summer.
"Smell that?" Matt asked as he took in a breath of air, Eleanor looked at her friend with confusion as they stopped in front of the school's main entrance.
"Smells like where dreams come to die."
"Mr. Darren! Everyone knows that, but that was like the third year in a row that you've said that." Eleanor gently punched Matt in the arm causing him to dramatically clutch his arm.
"Miss. O'Quinn! You know that's my weak arm!" He retorted, the pair joked it off and made their way into the building.
'Nothing seemed to change.' Eleanor thought pictures of different owls were in any corner almost to scare kids into thinking they were being watched 24/7. A joke she and Matt liked to play on freshmen when they saw them."Sorry... sorry... sorry!" Mumbled apologies came up from behind them, followed by a hard smack and a thud. Eleanor looks around only to gaze behind her and sees nothing but blonde hair. Matt follows her gaze and they look down at the poor girl, she looks up and is immediately terrified. Matt gets a devious grin on his face as he looks at Eleanor, however Eleanor seems preoccupied. She cocks her head to the side obviously looking at something that isn't there and it seems to reside at the poor girl's shoulders like a lost owl.
"Hey, hey, Eleanor, hey Nor, Ellie!" Matt's voice snapped her out of her thoughts as she looked at Matt irritated. Brows furrowed in frustration, Matt sighs and shakes his head, nudging her to look at the girl who still seems to be on the floor grabbing her things. Eleanor shrugs and helps the girl, this causes the other girl to stop and look at Eleanor.
"W...why would you help me?" She timidly spoke, grabbing her things from Eleanor. This causes Eleanor to stifle a giggle, clutching a hand over her mouth as she gets a better look at the female before her. Blonde hair in a messy bun, glasses that don't seem to fit her face, blue eyes and a pale complexion. Eleanor stands up followed by the girl she helped only for her to burst out laughing.
"Huh? Wh..what's so funny?!" She asks, clearly upset, Eleanor clutches her stomach trying to collect herself, the three surrounded by bystanders who seem to be stifling laughter as well.
"Sorry... sorry, it's just- you look like a Disney channel movie reject." Eleanor finishes, as the embarrassed girl looks down at her outfit, striking a pose almost as if she heard what she wanted to hear. Eleanore could distinctly see the owl whispering something in the girl's ear but the girl brushed it off. The owl had let out an audible huff, Eleanor had to brush it off again not wanting to get Mattie's hand waved in her face again.
"Thanks! I had some help picking out my outfit, what's your name? Mines Yasmyn Lillian, a transfer student from Blakey high school." Eleanor blinked, obviously confused. The crowd that was around them sighed and left heading off to class. Shrugging it off as just plain odd, Eleanor looks at Matt as if he had answers, he in turn shrugs.
"Um, I'm Eleanor O'Quinn, and that's my childhood friend Mattie Darren." Eleanor explained, Mattie gave a small wave as silence fell on the three.
"TRRIINNGG!" The loud sound of the first bell instructed stragglers to get to their advisory classes. Eleanore stiffened, surely they hadn't been there for that long right?
"Well uh, that's the bell. Come on Ellie let's head to advisory." Matt waves goodbye to Yasmyn as Eleanor follows. The pair head up the stairs talking to each other.
"Did you see this owl-like thing on Yasmyn's shoulder or have I finally gone mad?" Eleanor asked once they made it to their home room. Mattie was silent heading to his seat from sophomore year, Eleanor following close behind sitting down next to him.
"What owl-like thing on Yasmyn's shoulder?" Mattie looked at Eleanor like he would normally do when she'd say something questionable. She sighed and smacked her head against the desk she sat at. Internally looking for the words to say to make it seem like she wasn't insane.
"It was this strange owl sitting on her right shoulder, it seemed like it was whispering words into her ear." She explained after picking her head up and looking directly at him with a desperate pleading look in her eyes for him to believe her.
"O-kay... so you need an exorcist or a psychiatrist. Either way you are seeing things." Mattie spoke, pulling a snack out of his bag. Eleanor sighed, placing her head back on her desk. A quiet groan slipped out of her throat through her mouth, Matt through his chewing pats Eleanor's back. The class soon begins and the teacher goes on about how the start of the year should look and how students should act, this was followed by some new policies that probably wouldn't be too strictly enforced. The class ended and Eleanor had found the new policies to be a bit odd. Since when did they have a rooftop access area? Eleanor and Mattie part way's heading off to their classes promising to see each other during lunch.
Day one of junior year was off to a strange yet exciting start, this year was bound to be crazy that was for sure!
