The people asked for a continuation and I'm happy to deliver! I hope you enjoy
————————————————————Caleb stared up at the grey ceiling, the scenes from the nightmare looping in his mind, his alarm still blaring in his ears. He brought a hand up to his face and rubbed underneath his eyes, wiping the tears that had accumulated in his sleep. He picked up his phone from the desk beside his bed and turned off the shrill ring, then his eyes skimmed over the screen to check the time.
9:26.
He was late for work."Shit-" Caleb shot up and fell out of bed in the process. There was no time to question his subconscious about the awful dream last night. He struggled to his feet, untangling the pastel blue quilt from around his thigh, and grabbed his work outfit off the back of the desk chair that sat next to his bed. He hurriedly put his clothes on, not caring at the moment if the buttons on his pale green button-down were even. He rushed to the bathroom to try and comb the rat's nest out of his curly mocha-colored hair.
Caleb made a detour into the apartment's small kitchenette while struggling to buckle his belt to grab a ten dollar bill for the vending machine at his office job, then grabbed his bag and left the apartment complex, via practically jumping down the stairs.
You might be asking yourself, "Wait, office job? I thought he was a famous superhero!" He is, but:
In the world of superheroes and supervillains, there are multiple laws and councils, along with systems set in place to keep a hero's true identity secret. One such system was referred to as a 'Cover Job'. Most of these false occupations were some of the more lavish jobs, like acting, or modeling. Caleb had chosen a white-collar office job. Why had he done this? You'd have to ask him.The protagonist of our story ran to the bus stop, narrowly missing the last bus that ran in the morning. He stood in the middle of the large vehicle, catching his breath, and he spaced out as he thought about the dream from last night.
"Hey." Someone poked Caleb's cheek.
She did it again. "Hey, Caleb." He swatted her hand away, but it came right back. "Caleebbbbb..." He furrowed his brow. "I'm busy, what's so important this time?" He turned to the insistent woman behind him. Her lilac eyes stared holes into Caleb as she studied his face. She knit her brows together out of slight concern. "Are you okay? You look like you barely got any sleep."
"I'm fine, just woke up late." She nodded, and Caleb spoke again. "Anyway, what do you need, Lucy?" Lucy stopped absentmindedly twirling a strand of her —slightly faded— pastel pink hair, a color she had picked so she could feel "More in tune" with her ability, which was basically glorified matchmaking. "Oh, um, I needed you to 'file' something, if you don't mind?"
Caleb held out his hand, and a small folded square of paper was placed into it. A nervous chuckle was heard shortly after. "Just uh, just don't read it, alright?" Caleb nodded, and he glanced at the paper. The small square started to darken at the edges, then it spread across the entire piece of paper, and it crumbled, all within the span of a second. The ash was promptly dumped in a trashcan, and his coworker smiled.
"Thanks, you're a lifesaver! I can't imagine what would happen if Percy found it..." Caleb rolled his eyes at the mention of the company manager. "If you don't want him to find your dumb stuff, Luce, then stop writing dumb stuff. It's that simple."
"I knowww... but I just can't help myself! I'm working, then my hand grabs a pencil and starts writing, I can't stop it!" Caleb put an arm around the back of his chair and looked back at Lucy. "Then you need to learn to stop writing your cheesy superhero fanfiction during work hours."
Lucy gasped, putting a hand to her chest. "It's not fanfiction, Caleb! They're all theories! Completely harmless ones!"
"If they're so harmless then why do you have me disintegrate them?"
