Waking up to an alarm at two in the fucking morning is not fun, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

It had never happened to me before, but the loud sound almost made me shit a full brick— it was scary as fuck. My heart pounded in my chest, thinking I was either about to be burned alive or that someone was about to stab me to death.

With my heart lodged in my throat, I got up from bed and sprinted to the hallway and down the stairs, as if my life depended on it. I ran until I reached the main smoke detector in the kitchen.

It was still alarming, but I couldn't reach it with just my height.

Snatching one of the bar stools— to use it as a step ladder— I placed it right under the smoke detector, stepped on it, and shoved my index finger on the reset button, but nothing happened. I kept jabbing my finger at it, and it was not letting me silence or even reset it...

What else could I do when nothing seemed to be wrong with it?

There must be a reason why the smoke detector alarms were triggered, but I knew shit about it. They would not go off just because they just wanted to, right?

No matter what I tried, I couldn't find the reason why... It made me feel a little confused and somewhat disappointed in myself for not knowing how to fix something as simple as resetting that piece of junk.

"What the fuck!!"

My eyes darted from side to side, trying to scan the room, moving from one corner of the room to the other, but there was no smoke.

"There is no fire. Why are you going off?" I hollered as I kept on jabbing my finger on the button— annoyed as fuck.

There was no one else in the house to help me with it, either.

"Fuck!"

I have been living alone in the house ever since my girlfriend cheated on me.

Yes, she cheated on me— like I caught her full-on cheating on me with another dude— so, of course, I broke things off with her and made her leave my house.

She cried so much that day. But no words coming from her mouth phased me. Not even when she kneeled before me and pleaded for me to give her a second chance. I just didn't care... I left her to figure things out by herself or whatever.
