7 year old Mackenzie was terrified her older sister Maddie was arguing with their father all morning. It didn't help that their mother never cared enough to step in. Their father wasn't a nice man nor was their mother in fact. The two Atkins sisters were all each other had until Maddie got up and left her on her own. Apparently they had an older sister Mary who left before Mackenzie was born.
After a couple months on her own for whatever reason Maddie came back. According to her Mary or Georgia as she renamed herself kicked her out. Mary had a kid that she had to take care of and couldn't raise Maddie too. It was once again them against their father. It was a surprise that they both survived this long with the constant neglect and abuse. Maddie tried to defend Mack as much as possible, but their father was too strong.
"YOU CAN'T KEEP ME HERE! NO WONDER MARY LEFT! YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A PIECE OF SHIT!!" Maddie screamed at their father.
Mackenzie was hiding behind her sister. Not wanting to get in between them when they were both angry. In a fit of rage Ed Atkins raised his hand and swung hard.
SMACK!
The sound rang throughout the room as did Mackenzie's screams.
"DON'T TOUCH HER!!!" Mack screamed as Ed tried to grab Maddie.
Maddie immediately got up, grabbed Mack by the hand and ran towards their room. Locking the door behind them Maddie started packing clothes into her backpack. Mack, too busy crying, didn't realize what her sister was doing. Once she grabbed what she deemed necessary she threw her bag out the window.
"Mack, look at me." Mads spoke.
Pulling Mack into her arms Mads started to cry. She didn't want to do this to her sister, but she was just a teenage girl. How could she take care of herself and her little sister by herself?
"I have to go away." She admitted.
"What? Why?" Mack cried.
"He isn't going to stop. I need to be free of him." Mads told her.
"YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME!" Mack screamed.
"Shhhh." Mads tried to soothe her little sister.
"I'll come back for you." Mads lied before rushing to the window.
Mack ran after her trying to stop her from leaving, but Mads was faster than the 7 year old. Falling to the floor Mack cried herself to sleep that night, right under the window where her only friend and sister abandoned her.

Five months after Maddie left. Mack was depressed. Not that she knew what that word meant. She was too skinny, her eyes were bloodshot from not sleeping. Too afraid her father would come into her room at night while she was sleeping. All Mackenzie knew was anger and sadness.
