Nick sat down on the rug in Avery's room. Charlie sat a few inches farther.
"Avery, can you try walking?" Nick held her on her feet.
Charlie smiled.
"You can do it!" Nick cheered while smiling.
She was a little bit uneven on her tiny feet. She fell. Nick picked her back up.
"Can you walk to daddy?" Nick smiled and looked at Charlie.
Charlie smiled and held his arms out, waiting for her to come.
She took one small step but fell again. Nick picked her up once more.
"Come on, sweetie." Nick smiled.
She took two small steps then crawled the rest of the way.
Charlie laughed.
"Let's try again." Charlie picked her up on her wobbly feet. "Try." He whispered.
She starts taking two small steps. Then she slowly takes another. Then she unsteadily walks to Nick.
Nick smiled proudly.
"I knew you could do it." He hugged her.
