So when someone like the original host took in Lan Li Ling who was not only a gent but a widow as his main wife.

The entire capital was indeed shocked after this revolution, that the prideful and richest man in the empire chose a gent of lowly background.

Yan Chao Xiang was a very wealthy man owning many businesses, from gambling houses, restaurants, brothels, inns to small shops across the empire and is still expanding to foreign exchange.

Yan Chao Xiang was revered and idolised by the nobleman many wanting to set their daughters up with him, Yan Chao Xiang didn't show much interest in the beautiful daughters of nobles and cared not for the beauties that fell at his feet.

But unfortunately enough it was a bad day day for Lan Li Ling, who was there to retrieve his husband from a gambling house, Lan Li Ling's first husband was a man who couldn't left the gambling house becoming addicted to it and on that day when Lan Li Ling came to stop his gambling because there was no money and there son who was almost two years old was hungry and underweight.

That day his husband lost and blamed it on Lan Li Ling then took out his frustration on the poor gent beating the beauty in public.

Yan Chao Xiang witnessed all this but didn't care about the beating that Lan Li Ling was receiving, all he knew was that he wanted Lan Li Ling for himself and so he cooked up a good plan to take him.

Yan Chao Xiang not long after bought the gambling waiting for that one guest to come, and when the husband came he made sure the guards didn't allow Lan Li Ling to disrupt the husband gambling addiction. When the husband was fully embraced in gambling Yan Chao Xiang then rigged the game and the husband would lose one after the other and the other putting his entire family in a terrible debt.

Yan Chao Xiang felt happy as the husband felt devastated at the gambling that got out of hand and now he was in debt.

Yan Chao Xiang was not done and a week later he had the husband kill and frame it as a random attack, when in actuality it was all his plan to have the debt fall on the family that was left behind. When Yan Chao Xiang visited their home on the pretext of collecting debt he saw Lan Li Ling who was mourning with his child, and wanted him more.

Lan Li Ling who had no money was terrified, he didn't know how to pay off that debt and feed his child too.

Desperate he begs Yan Chao Xiang to spare him and his son, Yan Chao Xiang had made a proposal to him to become his and he will pay his debt.

Lan Li Ling who was still in mourning refused which angered Yan Chao Xiang who then went on to make Lan Li Ling's life difficult, he let no one hire him and had workers disturb his house until he could pay. He went as far as to disturb his in-laws, he drove Lan Li Ling to the corner leaving him no choice but to come to him and be his.

Lying on the bed Yan Chao Xiang didn't think much of the original host, he didn't know how to court anyone but he was sure he wouldn't drive anyone to desperation to be with him as that would not only hit his pride but make him feel pathetic.

And that was what the original host was pathetic.
