Over the next few weeks, the Driver became a regular customer at the auto shop. Every time he came in, he would seek you out and ask for your help with his car.
You couldn't deny that you were thrilled to spend time with him. There was something magnetic about him that drew you in, and you found yourself looking forward to his visits more and more.
As you worked on his car, you couldn't help but notice the scars on his knuckles and the haunted look in his eyes. You wondered what kind of life he had led before becoming a street racer, but you didn't want to pry.
One day, as you were finishing up some repairs on his car, the Driver approached you with a serious expression on his face.
"Can I ask you something ?" he said, his voice low and gravelly.
"Sure, anything," you replied, wiping your hands on a rag.
"I need your help with something. It's a bit outside of your usual expertise, but I trust you," he said, his eyes never leaving yours.
"Of course, what is it?" you asked, intrigued.
"I need you to help me build a ramp," he said, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips.
"A ramp?" you repeated, confused.
The Driver nodded. "Yeah, I want to try something new. Something that's never been done before."
You couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement at the prospect of working on something so groundbreaking. "I'm in," you said, grinning from ear to ear.
Over the next few days, you and the Driver worked tirelessly on the ramp, pouring over blueprints and tweaking designs until everything was perfect. As you worked, you found yourself growing closer to the Driver, sharing stories and laughs as you worked under the hot sun.
Finally, the day of the stunt arrived. A crowd had gathered on the outskirts of the city to watch the Driver attempt the impossible. You watched nervously as he revved his engine and lined up at the starting line, the sun beating down on his back.
With a roar of the engine, he shot forward, hurtling towards the ramp at breakneck speed. You held your breath as he soared into the air, his car twisting and turning like a bird in flight.
He landed safely on the other side, the crowd erupting into cheers and applause. You ran to him, your heart pounding with a mix of relief and excitement.
"You did it!" you exclaimed, throwing your arms around him.
The Driver grinned, his eyes sparkling with a sense of triumph. "We did it," he corrected, pulling you closer.
As the sun began to set on the horizon, the Driver and you sat together on the hood of his car, watching the stars twinkle overhead. You felt a sense of contentment wash over you, a feeling that you knew you would never forget.
Little did you know that this was only the beginning of your journey with the Driver.
