"Let's break up, Hajime."
Those were the exact words you said to him on the last day of term. Judging by the expression on his face, maybe he hasn't properly processed what you just said yet. His hazel eyes desperately searched for yours while you let go of his warm grasp. You looked away for a moment, avoiding his intense gaze and gulping saliva down your throat. The splashes of water increased, pressing down on the material of the umbrella harsher. A shaky breath left past your lips as you tried to hold your emotions in.
"What?" A few minutes went by before he could mutter up a response.
"I'm breaking up with you." You lowered your head slightly while biting your bottom lip nervously. Endless thoughts clouded your foggy mind as you tried not to break down in the middle of the sidewalk with trembling legs. You couldn't dare to look him in the eyes; you could only take a glance from your peripheral view to see his mouth struggling to push out a sentence let alone a word.
"Why? I don't understand." He called your name; his voice cracking.
"I can't do this anymore."
"What do you mean? Talk to me. Tell me what's wrong." Your boyfriend reached his hand out to cup your face before you coldly pulled away. He flinched from the distance you had created, causing a sharp pain hitting in your chest.
"Sorry but we are done." You took a deep breath and turned away, shuffling your feet forward as Hajime tried calling out for you. The water splashed as he ran through the puddles on the ground trying to follow you but were cut off by your demand,
"Don't follow me, forget me and everything that ever happened between us." He stopped his tracks, reaching out his hand hoping you would turn back but you never did.
"Goodbye, Hajime." You whispered to yourself as you disappeared into the distance; tears ran down your cheeks, your sorrows muffled by the sound of raging rain that poured harder and the storm that roared louder.
