"I hate cable television!" Dan exclaimed as he clicked through the channels.

"No one's forcing you to watch it then," Phil replied from the other side of the couch.

"I'm just so bored!" Dan shouted as he dramatically dropped the remote.

"...say that Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare's most renowned work, even though he wrote tons of notable plays. I think the thing that makes Romeo and Juliet so popular is that the millennials, this new generation, relate to the love story on a level which..."

The TV landed on some kind of Shakespearean documentary where an expert of some sort was explaining something about Romeo and Juliet. Dan scoffed.

"What now?" Phil asked, looking up from his laptop.

"This guy is talking about Romeo and Juliet like it's a love story," Dan said.

Phil paused and looked weirdly at Dan, "But it is. Isn't it?"

"No! It's a tragedy about the feud between two groups of people and it demonstrates how it often takes something horrific for people to actually invoke a change. Not a love story," Dan explained.

Phil shook his head, "No, it's obviously a love story about two people from opposite sides who fell in love, and then had some miscommunication. Their love for each other is what ultimately drove them to death."

"How can you possibly believe they're in love? They hardly knew each other for like 2 days!" Dan retorted. He normally wouldn't care this much about such a trivial argument, but he was bored.

"They fell in love!"

Dan shook his head again. "It's not possible to fall in love with someone after only 2 days," he said with conviction.

"You wanna bet?"

Phil's words made Dan do a double take, "What?"

"Yeah, I think you're wrong, and I'm going to prove it," Phil said.

"How? What do you mean?" Dan asked.

"I bet I can make you fall in love with me in the next two days."

Dan scoffed, "That's ridiculous, Phil. If I were going to fall in love with you, it would've already happened. I mean, I've known you for 6 years!"

"Alright," Phil said cooly. "If that's what you think."

Dan was frustrated by this response, but decided to move on. He resumed clicking through the channels until eventually he got bored and went up to bed.

Dan woke up the next morning, Phil's bet forgotten. He went about his normal morning routine, grabbing a bowl of cereal and sitting down in front of the TV. When he was done, he got up, put his bowl in the sink, and returned to the couch.

A few minutes later Dan heard a shuffling noise coming from down the hall. Moments after, Phil appeared in the lounge wearing pj pants and his glasses. Dan didn't say anything to him because he knew sometimes Phil wasn't much of a morning person.

Dan was startled when he felt Phil sit right next to him and place a kiss on his cheek. Dan's heart raced, but he told himself it was only because Phil scared him. Dan touched the place on his cheek where Phil's lips had been only moments before. "What was that?" Dan asked.

Phil shrugged without saying a word, and got up.

Dan looked back at the TV and tried to decipher what just happened. It took him a few moments to remember their conversation from the previous night.
