note: this chapter contains sensitive themes! homophobia and bullying are seen around the flashback sequence. read with caution!

this is a long descriptive chapter to begin, just giving context on the story. feel free to skip but it may give important details!

A lot of people liked Klavier Gavin, but in turn, a lot of people didn't. His brother, Kristoph, had graduated a number of years before, and every teacher he had ever had felt the need to open with, oh! you're Kristoph's brother! I see the resemblance! Was it too much to ask to be his own person?

Klavier was odd. He was strangely charismatic, and had this aura that made people think he was enthralling. He'd had his fair share of partners in high school, girls and boys, shifting to the latter only once he had realised he never really was into women.

If the niche cliques at this school were on a list from most to least known, Apollo would be at the top, and Klavier would be in the grey area in between. He was known as one of the kids that you'd say yeah, I know him when talking about him despite never hanging out with him outside class.

With Justice being an outlandish fashionista along with his friends, Klavier never dressed to impress others. Only to impress himself.

At his best, Gavin was seen with some form of baggy jeans or trousers, with frayed strings and rips at the knees. Polo shirts, t-shirts with an under layer and a bomber jacket or a desaturated, darkly coloured sweater with a band font face on it, much atoned to that of AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Aerosmith and so on.

Blonde hair about shoulder length and twisted into a firm main strand was the norm of his hairstyle - much to the belief of others that it was simple and easy. When he already had his hair done, yeah, it was. When he had to do his hair on weekends, his hair routine stretched over two to three hours.

Ema was undoubtedly his best friend. They had their quarrels and such, but they were always there for each other when they needed to be. Klavier also considered Kay one of his close friends as well, despite not knowing her all that well. They had first connected with Ema as their mutual friend and, he was delighted to be in first hand contact with Ema Skye's crush.

Klavier also had other friends that he knew roughly, like Nahyuta Sahdmadhi, who happened to also be loosely a friend of Apollo's. Still, they both had never mentioned his name once. It was beautiful and incredibly refreshing to be able to talk to someone who knew him without singing his praise like a sex tape on repeat every five minutes.

He was a man of many talents - good at most subjects, of which he excelled in social sciences, english and the arts - his musical talent was often overlooked due to Apollo being in his class, but he was a skilled drummer himself. His voice was okay, too.

With so much potential, still, his heart was always set on following his brother; becoming a lawyer was his destiny, basically. He had always looked up to the way Kristoph effortlessly got people off the hook as a defense attorney, and he wanted to do that too.

In recent times, though, Kristoph and Klavier had hit a rough patch through the previous few years. They hadn't spoken much, and Kristoph was moving onto bigger and better things within the law. Klavier's focus moved to prosecution, figuring he finally wanted to stray from his brother's path.

Klavier pretended like he didn't mind being compared to Kristoph. He did. He never voiced it just because that was the person he was. He was deathly afraid of crossing boundaries, and for that, setting them as well.

Apollo was similar in the way his future was essentially laid out for him.

Since he was 14, Apollo had been writing songs, and by the time he was 16, records picked up on his talent and voice, and with the shake of a hand, he was deemed the most marketable teenager of the decade. Most marketable rock star, and musician.
