*CRACK*
200..
200 pieces of wood chopped today. A new record
"Yoriichi, why don't you come inside and take a break. You've been chopping for hours."
He looked back before setting the axe down next to the log and walked back into the house.
"Goodness dear, your face is all covered with soot."
The mother wiped his face off with a cloth she had.
"I'm sorry to ask this of you, but could you take some charcoal down the village today? I know you chopped all that wood, but you're the only one who can get it done fast enough to get home before dark."
The boy only nodded
"Thank you, come, lets get your basket set up."
~Small Timeskip Later~
"Brother! Are you going down the mountain? Can we come with you?"
Their mother appeared out of the door
"Absolutely not, Yoriichi isn't using the cart so he can't give you a ride if you get tired, plus he's the fastest one here."
"Awww brother help us out here!"
Yoriichi just smiled a small smile and pat their heads respectively.
"Big brother is so cool as always!"
"Mhm, definitely!"
"Big brother!"
Yoriichi looked over at Nezuko, who had emerged from the forest.
"I was putting Rokuta down for a nap, otherwise he'd make a scene when you left. He misses dad a lot after he passed away."
Yoriichi reached over to pat the sleeping child's head. He turned around and walked back to the charcoal basket and set it on his back.
The family gathered to see him off, telling him things like 'be safe', and, 'come back soon'.
Yoriichi started to walk down the mountain, he had to admit, despite all the snow and the freezing cold, it was beautiful out. However he was mostly lost in his thoughts.
'How long has it been since I was born into this family? Sumiyoshis family, they're just as kind as he was. I wonder what happened to him, hopefully he was okay after I left.'
'What of Michikatsu, What is he doing now? I don't even know how long its been since I fought him all those years ago. It's the taisho period, about 500 years later, times have changed so much I can't believe it. I hope he's okay, he may be a demon but I still love him.'
"Hello Yoriichi, hopefully your travel down the mountain was safe. You're such a hard worker."
Yoriichi stopped and looked over.
"Yes, I also have plenty of charcoal if you need some."
"Oh no dear, we still have plenty from last time but I appreciate your offer."
"I see."
"Hey Yoriichi, We need some charcoal! Also thank you for fixing my door the other day."
He then looked at the man who was leaning out of his door.
"Alright, I'm on my way."
~Cue another small timeskip because I can't remember all the stuff that happened~
"Thank you for letting me rest here, Mr. Saburo."
"It's not a problem son, I can't let our favorite charcoal seller get attacked by a demon."
Yoriichi laid down, facing the ceiling
'Guess I'll need to rejoin the slayer corps.'
"Well Mr. Saburo, I will be going to bed. Goodnight."
"Goodnight son."
~One Rested Yoriichi Later~
Yorrichi glanced up at the sky as a crow squawked over head, that means there could potentially be a slayer around as he believed crows aren't this high up in the mountains. However something caught his eye, or rather his nose. The pungent smell of blood.
His face may not have shown it but, he was worried, scared even. For his family, for anyone who may have been attacked during the night. So he ran, and ran he did because he arrived at his house in mere minutes. The sight that greeted his eyes was... nothing short of horrific.
There laid the body of his sister, Nezuko laying atop the body of Rokuta in a protective manner, she was shielding him from something or... someone.
Yoriichi didn't want to but he turned and looked into the house. He felt sick, there laid the body of his family, His mom, Takeo, Hanako, Shigeru. All drenched in blood and lifeless. He didn't scream or make a sound but tears were pouring from his eyes.
He couldn't catch a break could he, Is this his punishment for letting Muzan escape all those years ago. For letting his dear brother fall into the path of a demon. It must've been, he lost everything. His wife, Uta, his unborn child, his brother, and even his Sword but now he had lost his new family.
He shook his head and went to Nezuko then checked her pulse, she still had one, albeit a weak one. She had to get her to the nearest doctor, but the nearest town was miles. That wouldn't stop him, Yoriichi was everything but a quitter. So he heaved his sister onto his back and carried her off, to hopefully save her.
