It's been a year and a half since Genie started high school, she was now a sophomore in the second half of the semester and befriended the Cullen family. When she first met them they had interested her since Genie couldn't sense a life force in them. Genie met Alice first and right away the two girls clicked. It took some time for the rest of the Cullen siblings besides Jasper to warm up to the young Angel of Death. When Genie first met Cain, he informed her that once she turns eighteen she would become immortal. After the rest of the Cullen siblings got to know Genie, they all thought of her as a sister to them.

It was the end of winter break and 16-year-old Genie was sitting with Emmett and Jasper in the living room of the Cullen home playing video games with the two boys. Out of all the Cullen siblings, Genie and Jasper were the closest as she helped him with the blood lust. Genie and Emmett were in another argument about the game they were playing, Emmett accusing Genie of cheating. The arguing continued until there was a knock at the front door, causing everyone to stop what they were doing. Carlisle stood from his chair by the window to see who their unannounced visitor was.

It remained silent in the upper living room as everyone waited for Carlisle to return. Genie could sense that the new arrival didn't have a life force like humans so she knew that the visitor was a vampire. Seconds later Carlisle returned to the living room followed by a young man with sandy blonde hair looking no older than twenty-one. When the unknown vampire walked in, he immediately noticed Genie and became furious with Carlisle and his family.

"What is the meaning of this old friend? Having a human know our secret is highly forbidden, you know that," the man said.

"Who said I was human," Genie snapped at the stranger, a dark presence being felt radiating from her.

The Cullens knew Genie's secret since she knew theirs. They knew that once she turns eighteen she would become immortal because of who her father is. The Cullens all looked at Genie with concern since they didn't know what their guest would do to her. It was then that Genie's different-colored eyes met the stranger's ruby-red one's time seemed to stop for them. It was then that the unknown vampire, to Genie, knew that she was his mate.

"My apologies miss," he said, "You have a human scent, so I assumed that you're human."

"I'm only human till eighteen," Genie said as she observed her mate.

Genie knew that there was a possibility that she would have a mate being the daughter of Death, she just never expected him to be a vampire.

"My name's Demetri Volturi," he said as he approached Genie, who was still standing in between Emmett and Jasper.

"Genie Swan," she said.

Carlisle cleared his throat then causing the two mates to look away from one another to glare at the blonde doctor.

"My apologies Demetri, it wasn't our intention on telling Genie what we were but she figured it out," Carlisle said.

"How? I thought you and your family knew how to blend in with humans," Demetri asked.

"She can sense life forces within living things," Alice said as she stood next to her mate.

Demetri looked confused at his mate. He had never heard of such a gift before.

"How does it work, love," Demetri asked his mate.

"I can sense life forces in any living thing, humans, shifters, animals, and even plants.  When I met the Cullens, I didn't sense a life force coming from them so I did my own digging and found out their secret. I also can control one's life force, bring someone back from death or I could take a life," Genie said.
