ART 2:

As the investigation into the postmaster's murder continued, the stranger remained a suspect, but there was still no concrete evidence against him. However, one day, the librarian noticed that a book the stranger had checked out was missing from the library's shelves.

The book was a rare first edition, and the librarian knew it was worth a lot of money. She contacted a rare book dealer who confirmed that the book had been sold to someone in a nearby town.

When the sheriff questioned the stranger about the missing book, he denied any knowledge of it. However, the sheriff discovered that the stranger had recently sold some valuable items at a pawn shop in the next town over.

With this new evidence, the sheriff obtained a search warrant for the stranger's room at the inn. Inside, he found the stolen money from the postmaster's safe, as well as the murder weapon.

The stranger was arrested and brought to trial. During the trial, it was revealed that the stranger had been in financial trouble and had planned the robbery and murder as a way to pay off his debts.

The townspeople were shocked and saddened by the revelation, but they were also relieved that the killer had been caught. The stranger was sentenced to life in prison, and the quiet town of Millfield slowly returned to its peaceful existence once again.
