The hammering against the door never stopped as she held him close to her chest. His sobs were muffled against her thin shirt as they hid beneath the wood at the bottom of her drawer. She petted his hair hushing and soothing him despite the tears racing down her cheeks.
"It's okay. We're okay," she whispered discretely.
He shuddered.
"I love you Lily."
