Megumi was starting to get really tired of the city lights.

They blurred her vision at first. But, after being in the city for a few weeks now, she had started to get used to it. Knuckles had stationed her here because there had been an unusual amount of badniks in the area, and he and she had both agreed something felt off about it.

She leaned against the cool brick, the folds of her kimono flowing slightly in the wind. She perked her ears up just enough to be able to pick up anything that might be important. She sighed, closing her eyes and fingering the amulet hanging from her neck. It's cool metal oddly comforting. Though she could still feel the amount of her power being stored away in it. Almost like it was pulling against the containment that Tails had made.

She picked at the small metal casing surrounding the stone creation. When making it, Tails had listened to her intently and had studied her for over a month. Taking into consideration of her heritage and deep connection to the world around her. He took a chance and used natural ways mixed with his advanced technology. And by a miracle, he was able to make something to control what had been ruining her life since she could remember. Only Tails would have been able to make something this amazing.

She let her hand drop and brought up her other, tapping a button on her communicator. "Hey, Knucks?"

"What's up? Something going on?" His voice was rough. Megumi smirked, she could practically see him at the monitors with that usual stern face of his.

"Nope. Still quiet. Unlike yesterday." She recalled having to fight off a heavy group of badniks towards the edge of town.

He coughed, "I might bring you back in soon in that case. There's no point in keeping you there if you're still not finding anything after all this time."

Megumi frowned, "doubting my skills, Knucky? Rude."

"No! I didn't mean-"

"I'm teasing."

She pictured him frowning at her and laughed. "I can practically feel your glare from here."

He chuckled, "Good. Go get some rest, Seranta. You've earned it. Report back in the morning."

"Will Do. Goodnight, knucks."

"Goodnight, Seranta. Stay safe, please."

She smiled at the nickname he had given her months before. Though he had yet to tell her what it actually meant. Only saying that it was his native tribe's language.

She dropped her arm and turned, glancing around the streets one last time before taking off across the roof tiles. The cool air felt nice as she jumped, letting herself weightlessly glide with the wind toward the hotel's rooftop. She landed softly and walked the rest of the way to the edge of the roof. She glanced over, counting down to her balcony before letting herself drop down from the roof towards it. Once again, she felt herself lighten just before she made contact with the metal railing. She slipped off and slid open the door to her room. She looked up towards the night sky one last time before stepping inside and closing the door behind her.

Far from across the city, dark eyes the color of red wine zeroed in on her. They focused in on the Kitsune like a camera. Zooming in and out of clarity as she landed on her balcony and entered her room.

A low growl sounded from just beyond the city lines, the dark eyes beginning to glow from the tree line. "Rest now, fallen angel. For soon, you will not get the chance again."
