I will never forget the time I saw the light shining out of the little hole in the old house on the other side of town. I was only sixteen years old at the time but I was smart enough to know what it was in an instant. This is the story about the time I saw the man riding on a cloud of fire.

25 years earlier

Becca and I walked through the double doors of Lincoln High School Cafeteria, I was in 10th grade and I had just turned sixteen the week before. Becca had her pink and blue spotted wallet with the green bow in the corner. I had my brown lunch bag with stains in the inside because I have had it since the first day of kindergarten. I've been begging my mother to get money to pay for lunch or at least a new bag, but she says it's perfectly fine, but I just think she doesn't have the money to pay for a new one.

We walked to the table and set down our things. Gabi and Connor were already there. Connor was playing on his phone and Gabi was looking through her lunch bag. Gabi and I always wait for the rest of the people to get there lunch by ourselves. As soon as Becca and Connor went to get there lunches, Gabi suddenly had an excited look on her face. "What happened?" I asked as I munched on my carrot sticks and waited for her answer. "Laynie just texted me that her and her brother are going to check out the old house on the other side of town next week and she wants me to come." She said quickly. "Gab, slow down, You mean the one that's been there for over a hundred years?" I asked carefully. "They say that, but it looks way older and no one's lived there for a while so its empty that makes it creepier." She said. "Well are you going to go?" I said even though I knew her answer.

Gabi has always been the fearless one. In third grade I accidently got my new soccer ball stuck in Mrs. Becknell's Great Dane's dog house and what did she do? She climbed over the fence and went right up to the dog house and got the ball no problem. That's why I had no doubt she would go to that house and see what's in there. Even if she knew she wouldn't come back.

"Of course, I mean how many times in your life are you going to get to go explore an a banded house?" Gabi protested. "just promise me you won't get into trouble." I said. "yes mother." She said and laughed. I just continued giving her a blank look. "Cass, you can come if you want, I know Laynie's brother won't mind. He's always had a little crush on you." She said. I shook my head and ate another carrot.

"Come on, please, you never do anything exciting, remember fifth grade?" I glanced at her. "Never talk about it." I gave a glare and drifted back into my thoughts. In fifth grade I tripped over Ronny Roger's backpack and was so embarrassed I went home for the rest of the day. I am such a nerd. I can't do anything without thinking it will ether affect my grades or my future. I made a promise to myself ever since my dad passed away that I would make the best life for myself, for him.

Becca and Connor got to the table when Gabi finished telling me about her new phone case. I swear Gabi could ramble on about anything. "so what's new?" Becca asked politely. "well after school I was thinking we could go to the mall, there having a new sale at American Eagle, and I am in desperate need of new jeans." Gabi blurted. "hey if we go to the mall can we go to forever 21? I need new heals for that new dress I got last week." Becca said. "yeah I need new shoes too, and I can drive." I said. "I need more guy friends." Connor said and we all laughed. "Hold on I can get Jake to come." Becca said and pulled out her glittered phone
