"Dani!" I heard as I submerged from the water. "Daniiiiiii!" I rubbed my eyes and looked towards the shore. Mom was calling me in just as a loud clap of thunder burst from only a few miles away. A storm was rolling in. The waves started to crash heavier and higher and I felt myself being swept in by the current.

"Dani! Get out of the water!" Mom shouted once again.

I loved the feeling of the sand in between my toes and the rain sprinkling my already soaked self. I pretended to not hear her and I dunked back down into the deep ocean. After about twenty seconds of waiting for Mom to give up and leave, I popped my head above the water to see if she was gone. Nope.
She looked angry, aggressively waving me in and hollering my name.

As I started to feel a strong tide, I decided it would probably be best for me to get out of the water. I pushed against the ocean and towards Mom, who was red in the face from yelling.

"Dani, you could've died! Why on earth did you go back under in the middle of a thunderstorm? You know how the waves get here!"

I rolled my eyes. "You're making a big deal out of nothing. Gosh you're so overprotective!"

Mom folded her arms. "Let's go inside and talk there." She said, grabbing my hand and yanking me towards our small tiki hut.

Both my parents grew up in Hawaii, so of course the minute i finished kindergarten we were off to live in a shack in the middle of nowhere. Sound fun? The only fun part about it is that I practically live in the ocean. I mean, I live on the beach. I climb palm trees for fun, drink coconut milk, my only friends are crabs, and I'm never not tan. It may sound like a dreamy vacation at first, but if that's the only life you've ever lived, it's just normal. I bike down to a smoothie stand everyday, and that's pretty much the only socializing I do. I like to swim in the morning and evening because it's less crowded. My dad works on the beach teaching surfing lessons, and my mom usually follows me around everywhere I go because she has nothing better to do. Life is boring. Sometimes I just wish I could live a normal life doing normal things that normal people do in the normal states.

I shoved down my dinner as fast as I could so that I wouldn't have Mom scolding me the rest of the night.

"That was quick," said Dad. "You must be hungry." He served me another spoonful of the spicy enchilada soup he had made.

"I'm okay, thanks though." I said, pushing my plate away and quickly running to the door, grabbing my rain jacket to go sit on the beach and watch the waves.

I wasn't alone though. A tall guy with messy brown hair and bronze skin was leaning over his surfboard, staring off into the distance as if he was contemplating something really important.
I knew not to socialize with people I'd never see again, but something about him seemed magnetic and within seconds I found myself walking over to him.

The minute he saw me he got flustered and his face lit up.

I forgot about how I was still in my swimming suit with tangled hair and a rain jacket twice my size on. "Pretty bad storm, huh?" I said casually as the rain poured over us.

"Yeah, I was hoping to catch some waves before the sun set." He said in a disappointed tone. He wouldn't make eye contact with me for some reason.

"The weather doesn't want you to I guess. Oh, I'm Dani by the way." I explained.

He shifted his weight and finally looked me in the eyes. "I'm Ace, and you're cute."

I blushed and forced out a small chuckle. "Haha, so you're a pick up lines kind of guy? Not bad."
"No not like that. I'm being serious. You're really pretty," he stated honestly.
